Nobody Reading Anything Lately

Thought it was about time the bookworm's here got a thread, watching all those DVD's will make your eyes square, plus reading makes you look smarter lol!

Recently I've been reading alot of Doctor Who books. The latest three I've read are Ghosts of India, The Doctor Trap and Shining Darkness, all of which were pretty good. They are aimed at a younger audience, but adult's can enjoy them too.

Other than that I've read Salvation Run, which is about all the DC Universe major villains being transported off world to fight for survival on another planet. It's a bit Secret Wars, but cool to see all those villains together in one book. Luthor and Joker are particularly well characterised in the book.

Finally I've started reading a novel called Pig Island by Mo Hayder. A friend at work lent it to me and I'm only about fifty pages or so in, but it's good so far. It's about a journalist who goes onto an island to expose rumours of Satanists practicing there. My friend at work tells me it's one the best thrillers she's ever read, so I'm giving it a whirl.

Joker graphic Novel by Brian Azzarello, Art by Lee Bermejo

Got mine yesterday, a very short read actually.
Story is ok for me, lots of violent scenes (well, its a graphic novel, its meant to be graphic)
Art Style is cool, especially for Harley :P
You can tell theres actually quite alot of TDK influence to the way characters are drawn.

My main gripe is too little of batman.....yeah well, its a story titled the Joker but a little more of batman cant hurt right?

but its really a little short and weird

I just finished reading all 28 volumes of Rurouni Kenshin manga from Viz, just finished the last volume last night. I took them out from the local library.

Overall it was good, but it turned into a fight manga at the end there.

Rurouni Kenshin is one of my fav manga series, I think the series peak was when Kenshin travelled back to kyoto to kill Shishio. When it when to his crazy brother-in-law things got a little messy.

You should definitely check out the anime as well, great animation and they embark on another story arc after the shihio saga instead of following the manga.

Watchmen and The Long Halloween.

Both ace so far. Thought I better read Watchmen to see what all the fuss is about, esp with the film out soon and all.

long halloween and watchmen??!! i read those at exactly the same time too SE. what are the chances. i took them with me to japan so the 14hr flight wouldn't be so painful.

i'm reading the cataclysm / no man's land story arc set of graphic novels right now. cataclysm was a bit of a let down. but volume one of no man's land seems a lot more adult-orientated and darker. can't wait to see what happens.

I'm planning to pick this up when I go into the city at the weekend. Been looking forward to it for a while and from what I hear it's pretty popular, hope there's still a copy left when I get there as I haven't reserved it yet. Brian Azzarello is a great Batman writer, I read Broken City a couple of years ago and was really impressed with the twist at the end. I'd recommend it if any other Bat fans haven't picked it up yet. Plenty of action but more focused on Batman than his rogues gallery.

Thks for the recommendation Jabba, will pick it up when I have time to hit the shops.

I got Batman Year One bout two weeks back and just finished reading it.

Overall, I quite like the story and the focus on Gordon & the corrupt Gotham Police.
I dont really dig the artwork though, seems abit dated to me. Dont get me wrong, the artwork is great, but it just doesnt appeal to me as much.

Relly? Year One is probably my fave illustrated graphic novel.

I can understand why it wouldn't appeal to some though.
