New Judge and 3rd Ward councilman
When the councilman was elected he stated two things right off the bat... One is he is going to work toward shutting down that group of people( did not call them citizens or tax payors) that are questioning the council about certain items that they feel would be counter effective for the city. Second he is going to push us into a new city building. "Martings"... Same old song, new face...
New Judge- "That building is unsafe to work in. We need a new building for me to hold court," Judge it would be refreshing to hear what you're going to do about the crime in our town. I thought that is what you were elected to do, not just be another puppet for the gang...
In 2002 this all started with the illegal purchase of the now infamus "Martings Building"... The citizens have voted it down several times. Many councilmen have lost their seat on council over it. One Mayor was recalled due to it and just this last ellection a secound Mayor lost his bid for re-election over his support of moving the City Building into the "Hag".
To the newly elected- fix our sewers, our streets, get control of the drug and crime problem. Make it a city where you feel safe walking after dark ... Then you will see a big difference in "us"... Thank you

I hope they get their way, that city building is a joke. Its gonna be replaced eventually no matter what so why not do it now because it doesnt get any cheaper o build as time goes by. Build a NEW building screw martings too.

South Shore KY ONE mile from ptown. the city BUILDING IS a mobile home and not on blocks. How much should or can we afford for ptowns. Just by guessing who do you think wants the property were the city building is????? maybe they should put it up for sale first and after sold add the money for a new one. plus sale martings, Do they own the old tv cable building if so sale it to and build a new city building where spartan stadium is  OR that nice piece of property the city owns across from pat's bar on other side of alley where the historical jail is. They can put parking where the historical jail is now and build on other side. Big metal building would be less cash spent.

Seems Chilli has the same problem we do.....their elected won't listen either!!!!! Wonder if Freidman is pressuring city to take this white elephant off their hands like WE did for Marting Bro.????

Anytime a city gets involved with real estate the citizens will lose.

Rebel: Right on, old boy. This third ward chap has not yet taken office and already he acts like a mirror image of the abusive ex-sixth ward councilman who faced recall during his term in office after trying to stop citizens from speaking.
Does the third ward councilman-elect have orders from his controller to stop citizens from speaking at council meetings if
they exercise their First Amendment Constitutional Rights of Freedom of Speech and dare to stand up and speak up to complain of poor sewer maintenance that causes repeated flooding of their homes with human urine, manure and hospital waste?
Will he ask that citizens be removed from the building if the dare speak against more taxes, higher water rates, increased trash collection rates, repeated illegal pay raises for the Auditor, the Mayor and Solicitor, or multi-million dollar unbid secret contracts behind the Mayor’s closed doors? Will the new councilman order the speakers to, “Get out of my building” as recalled Council President Howard Baughman once did?

The one thing we have in our favor this time around is we have a new Mayor. This could be the one thing that will stop all the B.S... I will say this and this is not the first nor last time--To the Councilmen of the City of Portsmouth, Take a look at the Constitution of the United States. Read the FIRST AMENDMENT...
Its all about FREE SPEECH...... We the citizens have a right to bring fourth our grievances and be heard. You Sirs do not have the right to stifle that right.

Rebel: I received information today that indicates that Nicholas Basham became interested in becoming the third ward councilman after Mayor Jim Kalb persuaded him to be a councilman. Basham has not been in attendance at any council meeting to my knowledge, and although he has some formal education he cannot know what the city council has done to aid the destruction of this city during recent years.
It is accepted and proven fact that present councilmen David Malone, Jerrold Albrecht, John Haas and Mike Mearan have repeatedly voted to put the citizens in long term debt for tens of millions of dollars in an effort to remove the city government from the present location so a group of unelected developers may take title to the present city hall site for a development project.
With their votes they have unfailingly followed the desires and plans of
C. Clayton Johnson, head of the Southern Ohio Growth Program and developer Neal Hatcher.
Remember C. Clayton Johnson, the man who created the Richard Martings Foundation and sold the city the old Martings building for Two Million Dollars ($2,000,000) in May 2002? The Martings building was appraised at $762,000; this amount was an excessive valuation. The Martings building is not fit for anything. It is bull-dozer ready.
Clay Johnson still has your Two Million Dollars, and he and Neal Hatcher have more deals to make with the city council in order
to even further loot the city treasury of more of taxpayer money.
Citizens have stood up, and spoke against more attempts of being swindled. Puppet Mayor Kalb and Clay Johnson’s puppet Councilmen
have been thwarted in their efforts to rob us again, and the conspiracy of Clay’s councilmen are unhappy with the citizens who refuse to be victims again. They must stop the citizens from talking.
Apparently it seems that Mayor Kalb may have given Nicholas Basham reason to try to deny citizens their rights to speak. Kalb has, during his entire 15 years in city government, repeatedly attempted to stifle citizens’ First Amendment Constitutional Rights.
Kalb, as President of City Council for many years, even banned vocal prayer at Council meetings. Succeeding Council Presidents Howard Baughman and David Malone have followed Kalb’s lead. Jim Kalb also has led council members into repeated attempts to eliminate the rights of citizens. Kalb’s efforts to violate citizens’ rights earned him, an incumbent, a third place finish in the most recent election. Kalb was not only beaten severely by a lady candidate but also by a late-running write-in candidate.
So it may always be with tyrants.
Presently we have two other councilmen who have taken part in secret council sessions to emplace an ordinance into the city charter to eliminate citizens’ right to speak on items not on the agenda. One such secret meeting of four councilmen was recorded on video by Joe Ferguson of Moezine Productions, and James K. Wilson in 2005. This video is still available for viewing on Moe’s Forum.
The four councilmen caught on video in his illegal act were Marty Mohr, 6th Ward, Howard Baughman, 5th Ward, Jerrold Albrecht, 4th Ward, and David Malone, 2nd Ward. Albrecht and Malone are still on Council.
Baughman was taken out by recall and Mohr decided not to run for re-election after his council activities, and his questionable personal adventures were exposed to the public.
Marty Mohr was replaced by an honest man, Richard Noel.
John Haas replaced the corrupted and rejected Howard Baughman on December 8th, 2008 and has voted with the gang of swindlers on every occasion.
Now the question is, how is Nicholas Basham going to vote? Will he blindly vote for whatever other councilmen tell him to vote for?
Will Nick Basham vote as ordered by the gang or will be vote for the citizens of the city? The low road or the high road; he must make his choice.
But perhaps, Mr. Basham should consider that the gang cannot remove him from the office in humiliating disgrace, but the citizens can, and shall, remove any person who tries to violate their God-given rights as guaranteed by the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States. This is America!
