BLOG: Pete's 1989 SWB 2.5TDi
Hi guys (and girls?),
I've just bought my first Shogun. It's a 1989 SWB 2.5TDi model, that's been slightly modified!
The black square on the door will be green by the end of the week. It needs a little TLC but I must not over do it, as I don't want to spoil the patina and character!
Any idea whether the colour is an original Mitsubishi shade or was the car sprayed to order?
Peter

Re: Newbie saying hello
I like this Shogun! Looks like you love it already. Sorry I have no idea if it's an original colour and I bet the documents just call it 'green'. DVLA have no space for imagination.

Re: Newbie saying hello
Hey!
The black door is now green.
Aside from a sticky freewheel hub - see technical section, the Shogun is running well.
I had problems with starting, especially since I started running the engine on 50/50 diesel / veggie oil.
Turns out there was no current at the connector rail between the glowplugs. I doubt this vehicle will get through it's next MoT without major expediture, so rather than paying for proper repairs and changing relays, etc, I connect a jump lead to the connector rail when starting from cold. Simple and efficient, this little bodge means the Shogun starts first time, every time.
I only use the Shogun for fun purposes, mostly at weekends, so I don't mind popping the open whenever I start the engine from cold. If the Shogun was my daily driver the starting procedure would probably drive me mad!
I'll keep you posted!
Peter

Re: Newbie saying hello
Nice one Pete. A mate of mine had a Mk1 SWB landrover, which had been used for towing hay and water to horses. It had stood in a field for a couple of years before he got it. He loved it, did all sorts to keep it running. Your Shoggie is in much better nic!

Re: Newbie saying hello
Hello everyone! I'm pretty much a newbie, haven't been around much lately. I've got a 2.5 SWB, blue, goes like a bomb, usually needs cleaning.

Re: Newbie saying hello
I'm going to keep this post going and turn it into a bit of a blog - if ok with you guys? Could someone please change the topic name to reflect this change - I don't have the "privileges" to do it myself!
Right, the black rectangle on the door is now green. The paintwork on the Shogun is not bad, considering the thing is almost 20 years old and has 157k+ miles on the clock. I say "+", because the odometer is stuck on 157k and has been since god only knows when.
Further to my enquiry about going off road (thanks for the reply Allan), I found a local byway, which just happened to be rough and muddy - perfect for a bit of off road fun. There were no ramblers around and I made sure that I did not cause a nuisance.
Here are a couple of before and after pics:
My first off road excursion was great fun. Can't wait to do it again.
Till next time!
Peter

Time for the bucket and sponge. Title edited as requested. Was it an original Mitsubishi colour?

Re: BLOG: Pete's 1989 SWB 2.5TDi
Bucket and sponge? No thank you sir! This old Shogun is staying dirty, for that tough 4x4 look.
I'm off to have some fun at a 4x4 off road track this weekend, hopefully more photos (and mud!) to follow.
Thanks for changing the title Allan.
I'm still not sure about the colour. Where will I find the colour code? I presume it would be on the VIN plate?
