Yes, the number should be on the chassis plate, usually under the bonnet. You can match it with the numbers on the link from rebel4001k.

I must confess that I haven't looked at the VIN plate yet, but I promise to do so real soon!

I've just returned from a dirty weekend away. No not that sort of weekend! My brother in law and I took the Shogun to an off road centre near Aldermaston, Berkshire for a bit of 4x4 fun.

Here are a couple of photos taken on the day:

The engine bay got a bit mucky, just as well the Shogun is fitted with a snorkle!

And here is a photo I took this morning:

The old Shogun coped well in the rough, although we did get stuck once, (within 5 minutes of driving onto the track!). Once we got to grip with it, the Shogun ploughed through all sorts of terrain with ease.

The front of the Shogun sustained a bit of damage where the bull bar crunched against a particularly large rock. A cracked indicator lens will need to be replaced, however with the assistance of a chain and a large tree, the bull bar has been bent back into shape.

After the event I had to wash the wheels and lights as the Shogun had to make it back home on public highways. I didn't think to wash the radiator down and half way up the M4 the temperature gauge indicated trouble. I stopped for a while to let the engine cool and inspected the radiator. It was completely encased with rock hard mud. On both sides! No surprise the engine got hot. I took it easy to the nearest petrol station and pressure washed the engine bay. I thought that would be it, but the temperature gauge was still indicating the engine was hot. Another inspection of the radiator revealed it was empty. We had water with us and around 7 litres of fresh highland spring filled the rad. After that we got home ok, without further problems, however I noticed this morning that water is weeping from the front of the engine. I guess the water pump is not entirely happy. Do you reckon the running hot (not into the red but the temp gauge needle was high up the scale) could have buggered something up? I guess time will tell.

Till next time.

Peter

PS: Still no plans to wash it!

Ok, from the time I went to work and came home in the evening (on Monday), the cooling system lost about 200ml of water, with a suitably sized puddle under the car confirming the presence of a leak.

I topped it up and went for a 30 mile drive. The engine performed ok, the temp gauge didn't rise above 1/4 and since parking up the leak has stopped!

The problem solved itself. Why can't all defects be like that?

As if one wasn't enough, I've bought another Shogun! I had no intentions of getting another, but during a lunchtime EBay session I came across this gem:

The Red One is in far better condition than the old green Shogun, the previous owner had it for over 9 years and didn't mind spending money on it. I propose to remove the big wheels and spotlights from the green Shogun before selling it, probably via EBay. Unless anyone here wants it?

I'll keep you posted.

Turns out the bloke I bought the red Shogun from is a celeb! Ok, he's not exactly A-list but he's famous enough.

This is him: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/bbc_news_24/2978593.stm
