advice for new buyer

Hi guys, Im looking to buy a Shogun or Pajero asap but im after a bit of advice.
First of all, Im going to be pulling a tourer so want to know if Diesel or Petrol is the better option.
Seen a nice 3.5 V6 on a 1998 plate but am a bit wary as its done 105000 miles. Do the petrols last as lomg as the diesels.
Main thing I need to know is what are vital signs to look out for when buying these motors as im a freshman when it comes to 4x4s.
Just got rid of an automatic toyota Estima riddled with problems so going to be very wary this time round.
Any advice will be very appriciated guys, Hope to hear from you soon
Cheers, Neil

Re: advice for new buyer

Hello Neil. I prefer the diesel as they're more economical and have lower servicing costs. Older Pajeros tend to be less rusty than older Shoguns and I like the rear lights better. Check for rust on the rear cross members and just behind the rear wheels. There's a bit more advice on what to look for here: First time buyer and here:
