posticon Auto Gearbox oil level

I am just checking over the Shogun 56 plate diesel auto . I read from the book to check the gearbox oil you set in idle and change through box back to park. Then check the oil level. It is not clear if this is at idle or engine stopped. Can anyone please advise correct method.

Confusing isn't it! emoticon I go for a short drive to get the engine to operating temeprature, then check the level as you describe, with the engine running, in neutral.
