shogun fuel problems.

My N reg 2.5 shogun had a cracked head so I sourced a replacement head which the garage I deal with fitted.
They havent been able to get it to run properly as it seems to be sucking in air.Pipes to tank have been replaced,no air there. It's difficult to start and mises as you'd expect with an air leak. They suggest the pump may now be at fault. The bill is mounting and I don't want to perhaps waste even more money.
Any help please? thanks.

That's not good news!
What are the full symptoms?
You say it's difficult to start and misses.
But does it clear at all and run OK?
Or does it keep misfirng all the time?

Hi,bearing in mind the vehicle is still at the garage and the following is what I've observed and been told.
Heater plugs don't seem to stay on long so after repeated heating motor struggles into life. mising quite a bit, sometimes if warmed up it improves and can be driven though still misses a bit.Battery now on the way out.As said the line from the tank has been replaced and joints checked, even been run straight from a can under the bonnet.
There is a little sump oil in the water which is assumed was left in the system during removal of old head.(I hope this is the case!!)Previously the car ran fine and it was water loss that drew my attention. The head was crack tested and I saw the cracks.

I guess they've double checked everything they've done, and their tests suggest that it's the pump?

If the pump was fine before, you are naturally going to wonder why it would be faulty now.

Have you asked why they think it's the pump? What test results suggested this? The front seal on a 2.5 usually leaks and lets diesel out, which you usually see behind the belt, but it doesn't seem to suck a lot of air in. But this one could be different to those I've seen before. emoticon

I'm guessing the head was a second hand (used) one? Have they done a compression test on it?

If everything was OK (except for the faulty head) before they fitted the head, then you have to wonder if the fault is either with the new head, or with something they've done or when fitting it, anyone can make a mistake and it sounds like they're trying to sort this.

I guess they've ruled out things like the pump timing, valve timing, tight tappets?

The trouble is there are so many possibilities, it's tricky to get to the bottom of it. Good luck with this one! emoticon
