Sigh!

Mom read part of my plan for my mini NaNo story. All she said was: Hmm, it's a fantasy story, right?
So much for feedback, at least she could tell it was a fantasy though!

You could post your plan here and get feedback. I won't steal it, honest.*

*hugs*

It happens. At least she made it a question. emoticon

It's often that first time test readers are a little unsure about what we want from them. I just had quite a discussion about that with my dear husband (you have to know that he has been refusing to read my stories for years after we got into a fight over one).

He was a little surprised that I wanted to know his thoughts and reactions to the story, not tips on improving the tale. I then explained that the improving part was my job, but that I needed his thoughts and reactions in order to know which parts to improve.

I think it helps to explain that. Maybe your mother was just trying to say something nice, and that was all she could think of?

And like Hadaad, I'd be interested in your NaNo Plot. The Scriptorium is now the NaNo think tank, btw.

You better not hadaad! emoticon emoticon I guess I will post it, even though bits of it are sketchy. Like the fact that most of them don't have names yet! emoticon

Ah, names can be very hard. I often just type xxx when I can't find a name in a hurry, but of course, having a good number of names doesn't hurt.

I hope we can brainstorm them with you. emoticon

Ha! That's what I do. emoticon
I did manage to name one though, I was thinking about her, asking her all the things they say you're suppose to and she said(Very acidly I might add!), "How can I have dreams? I don't even have a name!" emoticon emoticon So we talked it over and found one.

Yes, some characters, I tell you. They can take on a life of their own, can't they? emoticon

Re: Sigh!

When I'm writing, if I can't remember a name (I usually have extensive notes squirreled away in different books and computers) or if I haven't decided, I always go for the <insert name here when I remember>. Actually, all my notes to myself while I'm writing go in <> because then I can just do a text-search for those and find all the things I need to work on later. But I'm anal like that. Comes from being a programmer, I think.

Yes, that's why I use strings of xxx or yyy or www, because I can search and replace those when I do think of a name.

Haha! Poor Trying!

I completely understand. My mom and dad have shown no interest in the fact that I've been writing for a number of years now. I think they still think it's just some weird thing I do, a hobby, and it's unimportant.

Ah well. Parents will be parents!

Re: Sigh!

It's not that she has no interest in my writing (She's reading fantasy when she doesn't really like it.) she just doesn't question me or my ideas like I want. emoticon It's always good or yep. How do you work with that? emoticon
