brainstorm help

Ok, imagine... your whole life you've lived in a complex underground. You have the internet, and a DVD collection, so you know what the up world is like.

Then one day, in your 20s, say, you come up and find yourself in a big city (London).

What are you thinking?

I'd think that the open sky would be scary. And all those tall houses. Something could fall on me.

Of course, all those sounds, smells, sights... quite overwhelming, too. Maybe even scary.

I think I wouldn't like all those people that close to me. I'd feel crowded, or trapped even.

Or maybe you'd be used to that? Were you living ALONE in a cave underground, or in some sort of underground city or commune?

I think I'd be constantly comparing/contrasting things "upworld" both to how they are underground AND how they appeared in all the DVDs I'd seen.

Oh, and wind would be very strange, or rain! Shesh, the first rainfall would be ... out of this world!

These are all good ideas. She's a warrior soldier type person so fear will probably lead to violence, something I'm going to have to try and keep in check as she is also the protagonist.

She's been living in a secret lab, so it was busy but not seriously overcrowded.

And she likes movies like Die Hard, so she will probably be wondering why there isn't more shooting going on.

Thanks.

I think her interaction with people would be odd too.
It depends a bit on what DVDs she had, but can you imagine someone learning social skills from TV/films? She would be expecting all these cheesy cliches that you don't really get in real life, and might not understand their absence.
Also if she had a lot of US films/tv on DVD she might have trouble with specifically British/London speech and attitudes. Obviously the UK has shared culture with the US and Western Europe but certain things are very different. As you said Blitzen she'd probably wonder where all the guns were. In fact I can imagine that she'd get pulled in by the police fairly quickly if she got one.
