Sent off my novel today

I just hit the send button, after some frantic scrambling earlier today. Now I feel calm. This is for the first round, just a summary and the first 10 pages.

Getting this published would be really great. emoticon

I sent them my whole novel by mistake, rather than the summary. Of course, the guy organizing this noticed right away, so I could correct that. *laughs*

In addition, I told them I'd be on vacation, so it may be very fortunate they already have the whole thingamajig.

Lucky for you though, you must have been quite nervous while sending it off. emoticon

Well, the jury decided that none of the manuscripts was good enough. No winner for this contest.

*sigh*

Sorry, Firle! Go treat yourself to a consolation ice cream sundae or something. That's what I'd do. emoticon

Thanks, guys.

Don't know why this is getting me so down, except that I already felt ill and called in sick at work before I found out. emoticon

I sent it off to my agent this morning, even though I'm not happy with their communication skills. Still, it beats submitting to publishers on my own.

Submitting to publishers yourself is work intensive?

From what I've read a lot of publishers won't even look at a manuscript that isn't submitted through an agent, QS2. emoticon

QS: Yes, it's tough, because publishers prefer to get "preselected" work through agencies.

Also, agents are supposed to know publishers and editors, and have a good idea who to approach with a certain type of novel. That definitely enhances success.

My agent responded happily and promised to get back to me after looking at my novel. emoticon
