I'm beginning to think...

That I'm not cut out for writing stories under a thousand words. I just got another rejection today where they liked everything, but thought the story needed filled out more. On the other hand, I'm doing some things right, so maybe I should just keep trying.

I'll quit whining now and get back to work. emoticon

Remember Mark Twain? I think he said that "if I had time, I would have shortened it further" - writing good short fiction is very hard.

Keep working on it, expand the story in question, and send it out again. Best of luck! emoticon

Well, why not try "filling it out", like they suggest. If you're not good -- yet! -- at writing very short stories, try writing a middle-length one first. Then, once you've proved you're good at that, you'll probably have a better idea of what can be cut, condensed, etc, to make a shorter story.
