A Scanner Darkly (the movie)
Started originally by David Meadows:
Go and see this movie. That's all I can say. Go and see it quickly.
If you liked the book, you will stunned by how good this visualisation of it is. If you haven't read the book, you will be stunned by how good the story is.
I am stunned that a major studio would release a project like this. It's going to lose them a fortune (I saw it last night with a grand total of eight other people in the cinema -- if that's the trend, it will be pulled from the screens very soon.)
From the plot to the dialogue (I didn't think they made movies with dialogue you have to actually concentrate on these days) to the visuals, to even faithfully reproducing Dick's dedication at the end, it's a perfect representation. Finally somebody has done Philip K. Dick's genius justice, instead of just ripping off his ideas to make Raiders of the Lost Android.
I sat there as the credits rolled unable to even discuss it... just... stunned.
I'm still stunned.
See this film. If I haven't mentioned that already.
It's stunning...
(I'm starting to lose track of how many forums I've posted this on. But everybody seriously needs to hear how good this movie is. It's so far from the mainstream (i.e. it's actually intelligent) that it's going to vanish into obscurity if people don't get out there and see it.)

Re: A Scanner Darkly (the movie)
I agree, Firle. I also saw the movie (twice now, actually) and agree that it's excellent. I find it sad that movies like this -- which actually make you THINK, instead of just telling a story -- lose money. Yes, I realize it's not a child-friendly show, so it's lost the "family" audience, but I really don't understand why more adults (and high schoolers) don't go see such movies. Then again, I also don't understand why most adults don't read thought-provoking books sometimes as well....
Excellent movie. Those of you who haven't seen it definitely should!

Re: A Scanner Darkly (the movie)
Sadly I've never particularly favored Phillip K. ****, he tends to be a bit dystopian and all that, which doesn't mesh well with my own world views. So as clever as some of his ideas are, I can't really enjoy it.

I'm actually not a huge fan of his either, QS, but this particular movie was good. So break out the popcorn -- it's well worth the rent!
