What can happen to information
We all know that information can be lost because people leave it behind, thinking it's unimportant. We have only a few texts left from Roman times, or the early middle ages.
But it's happening even now. Kid965 explains what's going on in an article he wrote:
The Death of VHS ... and the Movies Left Behind
I think it's rather poignant how we deal with our cultural history - and the same goes for books, I fear.

That does seem a big issue, I guess the strict copyright laws do make it much harder as well to get these things done.
Especially in the internet age, without such strict copyright laws, keeping materials up to date would be a bit easier... Considering you can keep copying digital files pretty well after all.
