Re: The good things thread
Sheared three of the sheep today. It went good despite my hand getting squashed flat -insert cartoon of hand getting steamrollered- and is still aching. I love how the friendly ones let you come up to them and scratch their ears then when you reach for the rope...zoom they're halfway across the pen. How do they know??

Re: The good things thread
Oh, my good thing is that I have a whole day to myself today.
I plan to go downtown, shop a little, and just get inspired for projects. The rest of the day will be given to reading and lounging on the balcony, I think.

Oh, it was, until about 2pm. Then my life took another twist.
Still, I had a good time.

Woohoooo! It seems all my friends passed the first, written part of the exam I took last year: Non-medical Practitioner of Psychotherapy.
I'm so happy for them!

Re: The good things thread
I just re-read my Konrad novel. I still love it the way it is, and I totally lost myself in the tale. I have to admit that happens often enough when I read my stories.
I wonder whether that's good or bad.

Re: The good things thread
Firle, this weekend I started doing the same thing. There's this story -- a long two-book novel type -- that I started a long, long time ago. It was my first novel-sized tale. I've always absolutely loved the world and characters, but as it was my first attempt at a long, involved fiction story, there were some... weaknesses. I got maybe 1/3 through the planned plotline (and learned that plots tend to extend themselves upon actual writing!) before the plot holes and inconsistencies drove me batty. I put it down and went to do some other stuff, but never really stopped thinking about the story.
Then on Thursday or Friday night, I FINALLY figured out how to redo the intro scene to make it right. You know what I mean, how sometimes you get everything lined up just so and you know you'll never need to make major changes to the section again? Well, totally out of nowhere, those ideas came to me. So naturally, the next time I had the chance, I had to go back and write them in!
I'm now on chapter 12 or 13. Only two or three sections (including the first one) have been totally rewritten. Fortunately, most of the story was pretty decent, since I'd edited it once before, a few years back. There were an awful lot of details that needed cleaning up, though -- I think having taken 2 years off of writing that story really helped me sort those out in my head.
Anyhow, I am SO much happier with it now, but what I really meant to post here was that, like Firle, I got such a charge out of reading it. It was so FUN being re-introduced to certain characters, to listen to the dialogue again. I mean, obviously I knew that I'd written it -- even remembered doing so! -- but it still had the feeling of just reading a good story.
Lots of fun. Anyhow, Firle, you're not alone in your feelings. I get lost in my own tales as well.

Re: The good things thread
Today got off to a good start. I woke up early with a dream that wanted to turn into a story, so I let it roll around my head for an hour then ran downstairs and started writing. I got out 700+ words. The most I've written in a single day in about year I'd say.

Re: The good things thread
Yea, Trying! Congrats! Now, the trick is to do the same thing tomorrow....
I'm actually rather proud of myself, as well. Remember how I said that I'd gone through and re-done my oldest story? Well, I finished the first totally new chapter on Friday. I'd known where I wanted to get to way back when, but I couldn't quite figure out how to get there at the time, since there's about a four year time gap in the plotline where not much really happens. I got so frustrated with everything I tried that I just put the story aside for a year or two. But this time, after dusting it off and changing a few things at the beginning, I was able to plough right through. The chapter still needs its 'starting-the-next-chapter' edit, but I'd say it's 95% in final** form. It's a nice feeling to be moving on that tale again.
**Until the really-final edit once the whole story is written, of course.

Re: The good things thread
Wooh for Reythia, too. Sorry, wasn't quite awake there.
I managed to put in 1k words for the first time in ages. I'm usually sticking with 500 words a day, but I had to catch up from yesterday.
That makes me very happy.

Thanks everyone! Keep going, Reythia and Firle!
I managed to write some today - in between trying not to freeze. ( We were thirties/mid twenties a couple days ago, now it's below zero. Brrrr!)

Re: The good things thread
Congrats, Firle!
My big excitement (such as it is) this week is that I spent the last two days working** from home, cleaning up two chapters of my dissertation. I'd got to the point of having all the data down on the page, more or less in order, but without any words describing the images in a number of places. Now everything has descriptions, explanations, and theories, and there's a coherent "plotline" running through the two chapters. Two more small details still to sort out in these chapters, and then on to the LAST (non-conclusion) chapter. HUZZAH.

Re: The good things thread
Woohooo!
Having a clear outline helps immensely. I do remember that well from my thesis work way back when I finished my studies. (Not PhD level, but still.) I could work on each "chapter" as research took me, and I knew exactly where I was and what needed to be written. That made easy work out of an overwhelming task.
I'm so happy you got your thesis sorted out. You'll see that writing will be much more fun now!
