Hub Reviewer

Firle found a link to an interesting little UK magazine that she put in the Gossip Corner. I found that they were looking for reviewers. I applied, which I mentioned quietly in the post, by sending in a couple of reviews I've done.
And I got it! emoticon

There's no money, but you do get to choose free books! emoticon I tend to write reviews anyway as a writing exercise and because sometimes it's just easier than writing fiction.

The magazine is sponsored by Orbit publishers so I suspect most of the books will be theirs. They also have reviews of DVDs, films and TV in the mag, although I'm not sure exactly how they organise that. I assume you just send in reviews of things you already have or have seen recently, although I'll check.

I have to admit that the quality of the reviews I've seen in the mag was a bit varied. Plenty of them were good but there were a couple that gave opinions but didn't say why they thought that, which I personally think isn't a great technique.

Still I'm pretty happy to have been accepted and so quickly. emoticon

Sounds like fun, Dragonlady! Enjoy the FREE BOOKS! (That'd be encouragement enough for me, too!)

Congratulations! Free books and words that other people are reading. Those two things are awesome.

Thanks everyone.

I got my first book today! It's fantasy based on ancient legend, which is a favourite topic of mine as long as it's done well.

Re: Hub Reviewer

So my first review got published in the magazine. It's for Black Ships, which was a good book that I enjoyed reading.

http://www.hub-mag.co.uk/

It's the latest one (issue 66) which is kind cool cos 6 is my lucky number.

Reading it through again I can see how the review might be better, but I think I make my opinions clear and give reasons why I liked the book.

It's a nice little magazine, and free too so it's worth subscribing if you're interested. Also they pay for fiction, which is cool, unfortunately I haven't got a short story that'll fit at the moment.

Currently reading the second book they sent me, not liking that one so much though.
