Interesting Quotes Thread
I'm sure we've all read or heard particularly note worthy things in our lives, things that are highly quotable or have been quoted for a long time already. So I was wondering which of these note worthy sentences or paragraphs stick the most to us.
Of course there I'm starting it off, I figured I should look up something particularly nice.
So here is one of those lines that has struck me as particularly insightful.
---
Perfection is reached, not when there is no longer anything
to add, but when there is no longer anything to take away.
-- Antoine de Saint-Exupery

Re: Interesting Quotes Thread
This is a good idea. Of course, I can't think of anything at all off the top of my head, but I know for a fact I've got one laying on my desk at home. If I think of it, I'll share.
Hehe! Of course, right now I'm giggling a bit, since that quote that you gave is used in Civilization 4, and I keep hearing it in the voice of the narrator there!

I think I found one I like, at least it made me laugh:

Re: Interesting Quotes Thread
"I have an idea that some men are born out of their due place. Accident has cast them amid certain surroundings, but they have always a nostalgia for a home they know not. They are strangers in their birthplace, and the leafy lanes they have known from childhood or the populous streets in which they have played, remain but a place of passage. They may spend their whole lives aliens among their kindred and remain aloof among the only scenes they have ever known. Perhaps it is this sense of strangeness that sends men far and wide in the search for something permanent, to which they may attach themselves. Perhaps some deep-rooted atavism urges the wanderer back to lands which his ancestors left in the dim beginnings of history. Sometimes a man hits upon a place to which he mysteriously feels that he belongs. Here is the home he sought, and he will settle amid scenes that he has never seen before, among men he has never known, as though they were familiar to him from his birth. Here at last he finds rest." — W. Somerset Maugham

He's eminently quotable. Here's another quick one, the very opening from COSMOS:
The cosmos is all that is, or ever was, or ever will be. Our contemplations of the cosmos stir us. There is a tingling in the spine, a catch in the voice, a faint sensation as if a distant memory of falling from a great height. We know we are approaching the grandest of mysteries.

Re: Interesting Quotes Thread
This one is actually kind of relevant to science.
"You would do well not to imagine profundity," he said. "Anything that seems of momentous occasion should be dwelt upon as though it were of slight note. Conversely, trivialities must be attended to with the greatest of care. Because death is momentous, give it no thought; because victory is important, give it no thought; because the method of achievement and discovery is less momentous than the effect, dwell always upon the method. You will strengthen yourself in this way."

Re: Interesting Quotes Thread
I get some good quotes from song lyrics. For example:
To you, is it movement, or is it action?
Is it contact, or just reaction?
And you, revolution -- just resistance?
Is it living, or just existance?
Yeah, you! It takes a little more persistance
To get up and go the distance.

Re: Interesting Quotes Thread
Interesting to see they realised this one early on.
As soon as we started programming, we found to our surprise that it wasn't as easy to get programs right as we had thought. Debugging had to be discovered. I can remember the exact instant when I realized that a large part of my life from then on was going to be spent in finding mistakes in my own programs.

I love this one.
"You need chaos in your soul to give birth to a dancing star," Nietzsche.
But my favourite quotes come from Jerome K Jerome. I can read his work for hours, over and over again and always find something new in it.
"I like work; it fascinates me. I can sit and look at it for hours."
