Board Time Poll

Today, I when checking the day a post was made, I once again realized this board's time is set to GMT.

I remember doing that because then every member can calculate the difference to their particular time zone. It's easiest to start this from GMT, or so I thought.

However, the majority of members seems to come from the US, although we have a fairly large European contingent.

Rather than imposing my view on all of you, I'm going to offer a poll to all members. I'm offering to stay with GMT, or to choose German time (as it's my board), or US East Coast, which is the TZ for most of the US contingent. If you prefer something else, name it in a reply.

Technically speaking German time is actually called 'Central European Time' or CET for short. Which as you can see in the link covers a rather large part of Europe.

I don't even really check the times, so it's no big deal for me. Might as well leave it GMT, since that's a global standard.

It would be nice if we could move to a decimal time system one day though. It would also mean that we've finally managed to clean up our entire measurement system then, which would be really great.

PS, Yeah, I realize people are going to be 'slightly' resistant to changing our current time system.

Hey, those fractions of a second ARE important! But I really think that to keep both times AND dates straight, we should switch to MJD (modified Julian date). That way we won't have to worry about uneven number of days in a month or days in a year!

And yes, that's what I really DO use at work. emoticon

But as to the real question, it really doesn't matter much to me. I'd rather stick to GMT than CET, that's for sure -- I'm much more used to converting to GMT than anything else.
