Vampire vs. Ghost!
My latest project is actually quite a deviation from my usual literary stomping grounds. It's a supernatural/horror mystery, with a vampire narrator and a powerful ghost as an antagonist.
I'm drawing on local lore (Athens, OH is one of the most "haunted" places on Earth) for the ghost, with a few twists of my own. The specter is, in fact, a conglomeration of the souls of dead patients from the old Athens Lunatic Asylum. The real history of this place is fascinating enough. Adding in real ghosts and the fact that I live only a few minutes' walk away makes it really spooky! This powerful wraith is capable of possessing a living person's body and freezing them solid, which is where the mystery picks up.
For the vampire narrator, I'm going back to take a fresh look at classic vampire tropes, again with a few twists, instead of relying on the more modern Anne Rice / White Wolf Game Studios takes. Nathaniel ("Nate") Sterling is young, both as a vampire (a few years) and in absolute time (approximately 30 years since his birth). He has great strength and agility, and limited ability to shapeshift (fangs, claws, a bit of distortion), as well as enhanced senses and strong telepathic ability, which he uses to hunt. He does not need to kill when he feeds, and if he has "topped off" recently, he can walk in the sun -- but if he's hungry, he bursts into flames. He also loses his ability to care about others and understand their emotions as his need to feed grows.
Nate has two allies who will help him in solving the mystery of the strange "spontaneous human freezing" deaths. Reginald Drake, M.D., is the county coroner, and Penelope ("Penny") Wasser is an ex-girlfriend, an anthropoligist in town to study the local mythology. They are brave and intelligent, and Reginald is armed with occult knowledge as well as science, but will the three of them be enough to stop the fury of the dead? Mwahaha!

So yeah..., will the entire town of Athens be at risk from this horrible danger?

Having the coroner as a friend will help when there are "suspicious" deaths.
"Death by natural causes."
"But Doc, what about the puncture wounds on the victim's neck?"
"Don't worry, detective, we see these quite commonly in...er...froblinger's syndrome."
--- At midnight, all the agents and superhuman crew, go out and round up everyone who knows more than they do.

Nate's actually quite careful not to kill his "donors", and he apparently has the ability to make his bite marks disappear, though it's not a guarantee.

Um... yeah... About that...
It's the first thing I want to work on whenever my life stops falling to pieces. I've had some interesting ideas that I'd like to play with. I might even make it my NaNoWriMo project this year.

Well good luck with it. It sounds like a great idea for a story.
