Archetypes of Characters

I've been thinking about this. I think I'd like to create a list of types of characters that you've seen or read about in stories.

One we've seen (and derided) already, is the innocent farmboy destined to save the world. Are there others?

(Let me keep a list here.)

The Wise Mage - to teach 'Innocent Farmboy Destined to Save the World' (Tolkien's Gandalf, Edding's Belgarath, Jordan's Moiraine)

The Great Warrior - some sort of physical force (Tolkien's Gimli, Edding's Mandorallen, Jordan's al'Lan Mandragoran)

I could probably go on, but I'll leave some for other people to list

The Truly and Utterly Evil Overlord with No Redeeming Qualities and the One Fatal Weakness Which Will Be Exploited by the Hero and His Plucky Comic Relief Sidekick.

(you know, the one who doesn't respect any advice from the Evil Overlord list...)

How about the beautiful maiden/princess who "surprises" everybody by being tough and independant and standing up for herself when the villain/hero/father-figure tries to boss her around (but still marries the hero at the end).

I'm thinking right now of how you tend to have good and evil gods vying for control of the world so oftently.

The guy who is there soley to have a conversation to allow for an info dump. Either the main character is telling him something and the guy already knows it or the character simply tells the main character something he didn't know. I'm not talking about a character who lasts for one scene or a chapter but a recurring character who is in most of the book but doesn't serve any real purpose but info dumping.
