SF Poll I noticed a nice magical creatures poll and thought I could maybe make an SF poll now as well. After thinking about this for awhile though I realized I had one tiny little problem. I can't for the life of me think up of a lot of good creatures/aliens for such a poll, is there no typical set of such creatures,? Well aside from the small gray brainy aliens that is.... And aside of the warlike felines...
short Grey -big heads
short Green -big heads
giant bugs (cockroaches)
Long-legged (Close encounters)
Cyborg
AI in non anthropod form
giant lizards
human
human-like
silicon based
Gallifreyan (Dr. Who)
blobs
lupine
feline
dinosaur-like
the list goes on and on

Re: SF Poll Don't forget the class of scifi lifeforms that are only energy and have no material form to describe!
Basically any type of animal on Earth has had scifi stories written about a similar animal which somehow evolved into either a big, nasty monster with pointy teeth, or an intelligent alien race. The same is true in fantasy books. Also, scifi has its share of "head of a monster A, body of monster B" type creatures. Hooray for uninventiveness!
More than that, though, I think the reason it's harder to find a good list of "classic" scifi creatures is because the non-monsters (and thus the ones we really care about) are often basically human.
Fantasy has a more well-known list of "typical" creatures than scifi, but I don't think the full list of possible fantasy creatures would be any longer or shorter than the list of possible scifi creatures. Mostly that's because I see them as being pretty much the same thing, but often with different names...
