Horselore by Judith Tarr
My favorite author is doing a blog series about horses and horse lore - especially designed to help authors. And Judith knows what she's about, she's breeding and riding Lippizans.
So far, there are three installments, and I'll link all the others coming up. Feel free to comment in between, that'll make it more fun.
I'll space out the first three a little, so we can talk about them, too.

#1 Horses Are Not Dogs
Read this carefully. While horses are social animals, a herd functions differently from a pack.
Enjoy!
Edited to say: Look at the comments. (And ignore mine.) You'll learn a lot more about horses.

#2 Me, My Horse, and I
This one is about how horses relate to humans and how one can incorporate that into a story.

For the next one, I advise you to put down your coffee mug before starting to read, or your screen will be in jeopardy. It's about horse humor.
#3 A Horse Walked Into a Bar
Do read the comments. You'll find much inspiration for your tales if they have even one horse in it.

I haven't been keeping up with this, but here's the next one:
#4 Notes from the Mare Side of the Fence
And yes, the term War Mare is not used lightly.

Re: Horselore by Judith Tarr
I really need to be more diligent. She's posting a new entry every week!
In this one, she talks about stallions. Yes, those mighty creatures that fantasy heroes are wont to ride. It's not quite that simple, though.
Giving the Boys Their Due
More to come.
