Exercise Suggestions
The exercises are meant for all members to improve their craft. I can only guess at the kind of exercise you'd like to do, so feel free to suggest anything here.

Re: Exercise Suggestions
Here's an idea that I heard about once - It hasn't worked for me personally to get out of a bad block, but the premise is valid, so I pass it along in the belief it can help others.
1. Give yourself one minute (on a computer; two minutes if you're using pen and paper) to write down a list of words. Any words at all. Just put down anything that comes to mind during that time, and don't worry about making sentences. In fact, it's better if they're just random words. Also, don't erase or delete anything, not even spelling errors. If at all possible, you should even write this list with your eyes closed!
2. When you're finished, you should have a nice long list of words. Pick any one of them that now stands out to you.
3. Use the word you chose in three different sentences. Don't even try to connect them; they should be as different in tone and intent as you can make them.
4. Of the three, choose the one that looks the most interesting to you and, using your intuition, expand it into a full paragraph. Do not erase or delete any words, and try not to edit yourself. Just let the ideas flow forth.
5. You should now have a seed you can nurture into a nice litle short story, or maybe something even longer.
Good luck! 8^)

Re: Exercise Suggestions
A question I have is this: The date on the exercises: Does it mean something? Are you closing the exercises after a certain date, or is it saying: You have this deadline, so try to get it done before then, so we have something to work against? If it's a hard deadline, I'm sorry for posting exercise 5 yesterday.

Re: Exercise Suggestions
No, it's just a way of lining up exercises. I try to put up a new one every two weeks, not that it works out that way. *cough*
Feel free to do any of them whenever you like.

Re: Exercise Suggestions
How about this for a suggestion.
We get a character description or even a well known, yet fictional, character and put them in a scene...

Re: Exercise Suggestions
How about you get a bunch of Fantasy related words, put them in a hat and draw one every week.
We would write a scene either using the word or based on it.

Re: Exercise Suggestions
Ah, that would be similar to the challenges.
Still, I like the idea.

Re: Exercise Suggestions
I saw this on the way home from work yesterday and it just stuck with me.
Two cigarettes, unburned, broken in half, sit on the ground between two cars that face each other in an underground parking garage.
There has to be a story around this. Unfortunately, I'm too busy to explore it at length. I thought maybe constructing the story around this snapshot could be an exercise.
