Waterloo, love your quotes, esp. the ones on flattery!

A few of mine:

"The louder he talked of his honor, the faster we counted our spoons."
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

"If you're going through hell, keep going."
- Winston Churchill

"Do one thing every day that scares you."
- Eleanor Roosevelt

From: Still Life With Woodpecker, by Tom Robbins

"Funny how we think of romance as always involving two, when the romance of solitude can be ever so much more delicious and intense."

"I'll follow him to the ends of the earth," she sobbed. Yes, darling. But the earth doesn't have any ends. Columbus fixed that.

"There are two kinds of people in this world : those who believe there are two kinds of people in this world and those who are smart enough to know better."

"Humanity has advanced, when it has advanced, not because it has been sober, responsible and cautious, but because it has been playful, rebellious, and immature."

Re: Our Favorite Quotes

There's a great line in the movie "The Holiday" with Jude Law (yum) and Kate Winslet. Kate's character is emotionally entrenched in a one sided (sort of) affair with a man who has just announced he is engaged to someone else. In one scene an elderly man says to Kate's character something like,

"You are behaving like the supporting actress when you really are a leading lady"

made me think.....
