The guy i dated had npd...and i dont get how people would just fall for his bs
Actually now that i think about it i do
He is a master manipulator ...he can lie with a straight face and make himself act as though hes feeling emotions he isnt...so the person listening naturally believes their lies

Yes, its true people don't always see through them immedately, I guess the lucky ones do, sometimes I believe there is a lacking in someone who willingly gives an ear to their BS.
I know in my case, I always had a deep feeling that something was "off" about this guy, like he didn't add up??

Because he becomes whatever they want at any given momment.....he tries to please them get them on his side.............remember hes a blank slate and cam metamorph into anything
If theyre expecting a monster hes a sweetheart...
hes a master manipulator.....and he ll win because he has no feeling

Ps are generally fools, but not stupid. In my experience, their greatest talent is their acting ability and hence, charisma. Great actors have to be able to understand their character role very deeply. This is what is so infuriating about them to so many of us.
Ps also tend to move around a lot. They'll stick around gaining great NS but eventualy, their 'friends' and acquaintances start to figure them out and on they go. The highly functional Ps such as exec's, successful stock brokers, clergymen, lawyers and shrinks, these are the really frightening ones. They bulldoze their way to greater power for their evil ways by keeping the blindfolds on everyone, until the eventual homicide, white collar crime, rape etc. busts them.
After the D&D and I went NC and the show was over, I had to learn who really counts in my life. My time is precious, I have so many wasted years to catch up from after him. This has been a good thing. I am alone but I'm not wasting my time with superficial, fairweather friends or back stabbing manipulators. The time is all mine now. I have no time for people pleasing and and am getting pretty good at saying NO for I have rediscovered my voice.
You will make better, more authentic deeper relationships in your future because now that he's gone, you get to choose how to spend your time.

From the aquaintances we knew none believed me..they all thought i was the nutty one 
i felt ostrasized
i suppose its a hard thing to comprehend...when people think of psychos they think of michael myers and stuff like that

I am in the same place. My mother is a narcissist and because of the emotional abuse encountered when I was a child I am very highly emotional. She is now using my older son against me telling him I am mistreating her and he has been verbally abusive and emotionally cruel to me for years. I am afraid of him and what he will do to my younger son's love for me. No one believes me they say it is all me. She does not come around then says I am keeping her from seeing her grandchildren. She has alienated me from all family.

This is my first post to this board. I am fresh out of a relationship with a diagnosed sociopath. This thread caught my eye. 20/20 hindsight is kicking in and I can see it all so clearly now.
Many people LOVE my ex. He is like the pied piper drawing people in. He seems to intuitively tell a person's strenghts and weaknesses and is able to manipulate the person using this information. He is just so likeble...but after we split many people said the same thing "I like ***, but....."
When things started to go terribly wrong, many of our friends just didn't want to believe it.
I have spent the past few weeks thinking about things and I realize the signs were all there....were even BLATANT...yet we all ignored them. It's just hard to understand.
I have watched him say the most offensive things to people and watch them go into instant denial. I few months ago he said something very off-color about a friends young daughter, and the man said nothing.
It's like people see something is wrong, but they just don't want to believe it.
I have no idea how he does it.

I've had the same experience. It was so strange and when I didn't understand what he was I just laughed oddly at him.
Early on when he was taking me around his family before the abuse got really bad and had nothing bad to really say about him, his dad was showing a video of he and xn's mom on a trip to alaska.
Xn's mom and dad were being pulled by a horse on a sled in alaska.
The xn said "horses ass" in front of 60 relatives while looking straight at his dad showing this video of he and his wife (xn's parents) being pulled by this horse.
I laughed strangely and a couple of other laughed nervously but everyone else..just looked and then they moved on.
That was a funny weird comment...there were many more mean things that were said that were ignored.
Strangers would actually come up to me when he was rude to them and say what a horses as he is!!
So..I get what you are saying amber eyes.
