SOME INSIGHT PLEASE
My partner (maybe soon to be ex)
seems to have a narcissistic personality - on top of this he drinks 2 bottles of wine every night - he does not hide this from myself and his two teenage sons. However, denies that he has a drinking problem. He says, things like he dosent like himself and is not happy - he does not act like this though. He believes when he is successful or wins the lottery he will be happy. He puts me down says things like I am lazy, an idiot etc. Anything he does I have to give repeated acknowledgement for. However, he will not do anything for me alone. His sons can do something wrong and walk all over him - show him no concern, yell at him and swear, he backs down and speaks to them in a almost begging way - always crawling to them and pandering to everything they want. They run their own lives and just use our home as a dumping ground - they will never pick up anything or do anything nice to help with the way our home is. When I ask my partner to help to teach them - he takes this as an insult. I can not expect his sons to help in anyway, otherwise he starts putting me down.
It's like I am the lowest in the food chain.
I can do something really nice or say something positive - it goes unnoticed, if I say something slightly wrong - you would think I had just done the worst thing in the world the way he reacts. All of his behaviour including the drinking he says is my fault. It does not matter what happens around here or out - what everyone says or does that he dosn't like - some how he twists it back on me as if it was my doing or my fault. When I have tried to talk to him or write to create a level playing field so we can have a peaceful happy life together - he twists everything again only looking to blame me for everything. At this stage I keep quiet, when he insults me I agree and just say, I don't know why I am like that - yes I know I am an idiot - this somehow gets him to stop. I could go on and on.... Can you understand any of this and can you give me any insight - it would be much appreciated. Kindest regards, Kerira.
