"Google 'divorcing a narcissist.' It will give you a lot of insight into what I've been going through for the past three and a half years." is a quote by Christie Brinkley. What does "divorcing a narcissist" mean for Brinkley? Brinkley feels that her ex-husband Peter Cook is an "extreme
"Divorcing a Narcissist" : Brinkley and Cook's Bitter Divorce narcissist." This information was recently reported by Newsday.com.
Former supermodel Christie Brinkley and her ex-husband Peter Cook have been in the middle of a bitter child custody battle. The battle has lead Christie Brinkley to her feelings of "divorcing a narcissist."
I Googled "divorcing a narcissist, as recommended by Brinkley. A flood of information from a variety of sources was available on my screen. I never knew so many people were concerned about "divorcing a narcissist."
Dr. Vaknin wrote a book on narcissism. A portion of the book was published on the Web site drirene.com and discusses divorcing a narcissist. Basically, when divorcing a narcissist you need to use a narcissists fears and flaws against them.
Whether or not Peter Cook is a narcissist is something we can't infer just because his ex-wife feels that she was "divorcing a narcissist." After all, divorces are never easy. When children are involved the fight can get really ugly really fast.
According to the Newsday.com article, Brinkley and Cook split after Cook had an affair with a teenage store clerk. According to Cook, Brinkley refused to hand over their son's passport - causing their 14 year old son to miss a class trip to Egypt.
It's possible that Cook feels like he was "divorcing a narcissist" as well. The whole mess of "he said she said" and the back-and-forth arguments are astounding, although not unexpected.
Peter Cook will get to see his children 50% of the summer. The couple also came to agreements on handling their childrens' passports.
The true victims of "divorcing a narcissist" are the couples two children Jack and Sailor. Jack is 14 and Sailor is 11. Unfortunately the children have been in the middle of the whole ugly divorce for a good chunk of their childhood.
Perhaps Christie Brinkley was divorcing a narcissist. Then again, maybe Peter Cook was divorcing a narcissist as well. Divorce is never easy. When kids are involved, a couple just needs to stick to the relevant facts and not worry about getting one up on the other spouse.
