"Soul" Cooking: Post your recipes and nutrition tips
Good nutrition is often overlooked in the first stages of recovery. Sometimes our own particular comfort foods can be of comfort to someone else as well. With that thought in mind, we have added a Recipe Section to the forum for sharing our favorite recipes and nutrition-related tips.
There are threads for various recipe and topic categories. Please add your own favorites under the appropriate thread or if you don't see a category that quite fits your topic or recipe, feel free to start your own.
This poem which I wrote a few years ago was inspired by a former member, an N-survivor who went from a life of "Takeout and Delivery" Post-N and transitioned into a place where she would finally "Take Charge and Deliver" on her own behalf.
"Soul" Cooking

I am a cook, I always was. I have a certain flair
For making yummy, gooey things and bread as light as air.
When I became a wife and mom, I cooked for them with glee.
It wasn't just a meal I'd make. It was a memory.
My cupboards then were always stocked, I lacked not one supply.
I always had myself prepared for guests who might drop by.
Then all at once the day arrived. I didn't need those things.
The kids were grown, and my dear spouse forgot the wedding rings.
There wasn't anyone around. Whatever should it matter?
So what if I knew how to make a perfect pancake batter?
It didn't seem important then to cook for only me.
The pizza guy became my friend and so did Micky D.
My cupboards went from full to bare which slowly took its toll.
I had forgotten cooking was a way to feed my soul.
One day I just got tired of it and I leapt to my feet.
Why not make something wonderful and give myself a treat?
I went out to the market and I filled my cart right up.
No longer does my cupboard hold a single, lonely cup.
It's full of everything I love for recipes galore.
If I can't do this for myself, who can I do it for?
My soul is fed, my plate is full, my cupboards hold enough
To make that bread as light as air and yummy, gooey stuff.
So now I cook because I still can make a memory
With dishes that I cook for friends, and also just for me.
Friends, put your recipes right here, the ones you make with pride.
If you have little tips and tricks, just post them right inside.
Alone or with a house that's full, through cooking we can feel
The joy of filling up our souls. Now, let's go make a meal.

What a great idea ... I agree ... our nutrition is so important, and so overlooked when we are suffering ... I know that if it's simple, I will try it ... : )) And I've already seen a delicious pumpkin dessert that I can't wait to try!
This is be a great thread!
