Re: New Website Maligant N's Impact on Children
Thank you, femfree. This is a good site. I read a couple of pages, and I see my own mother's tactics so clearly.
I've been doing more reading in this area lately. My own mother was certainly narcissistic, histrionic, and delusional.
I recently received a large box of photos that had belonged to my mother. I saw photos of myself as a child, some of which I hadn't seen since my grandmother had them, and some of which I had never seen before.
It is so obvious in the photos that I was deeply disturbed in my mother's presence. Any photos of me and my mother together, I look absolutely haunted. There is always such a sad, hyper-aware look in my eyes in every photo of us, even when I was as young as age four.
It is very hard to look back at these things.

Re: New Website Maligant N's Impact on Children
Thank you so much for the very kind words.
I'm working on a page for our AIMOO site. The whole experience of having N parents has such a tremendous impact.
I'm lucky I didn't have N parents and am sometimes at a loss for words.

Re: New Website Maligant N's Impact on Children
Hi. I am Zsu from Hungary. I am 38. My dad (I think now) was a N, he died 12 years ago. He adored me when I was a child and I was dependent on him completely, I walked after him like a little dog even in the house.
The first creepy thing I remember was when I was 12 and was lying on the floor with my sister (1 year younger than me) listenint to some rock music... and dad came in enfuriated, raging, that I SHOULD NEVER listen to such music, only CLASSICAL (this was HIS taste...) (he almost broke the glass door)
can I say that this was a very strange behaviour on his part...? maybe narcistic...? (I try to understand his behaivour now...)
at the same time he said that rock music was an AMERICAN thing (he almost spat on the floor) (later on I understood that "American" stood for "Israeli/Jewish" in his language... yes, he was an antisemite as well...
so I am a bit confused about him, trying to identify his problems (and mine, of course), he was a "great man" in the town, a physicist, scholar, a renaissance man...

Re: New Website Maligant N's Impact on Children
Hi Zsu,
Welcome to the forum! You may find many people here that you can relate to and understand. I hope it can help you heal the difficult memories.
When I was a young kid, I adored my NF, and he did me. But when I turned teenager, any time I tried to question him in a innocent, calm way he would say "we're going to tangle"(argue) in a condescending warning tone. Then that would end the conversation. It made me so frustrated and angry. I would quietly fume.
He spent less time around home when I turned teenager. The sad thing about it, my sisters and I were good teenagers (too good because of unsuccessfully trying to please the NF), earned good grades in school, polite. But the idea of confronting someone who is becoming an adult and learning(or struggling to) assert themselves was impossible, so he avoided us.
Zsu, I learned that the NF either avoids any conflict or dealing with something they don't like (such as rock music) by either :
1) Avoiding
2) Having a huge tantrum
These people can't have a discussion about things they can't relate to. Just like a child.

Re: New Website Maligant N's Impact on Children
I just read too..this page
http://home.att.net/~cruelrealityofnpd/ObjectifyingChildren.htm
Very uncomfortable reading for me.
I think I am going to switch group to this one...because I think I really need to be here rather than in the general area.
