Re: what are your favorite sandwich concoctions?
Hi Scorpiotype,
Grilled cheese and tomato. Is that more of a cheese on toast thing that you have going on with that one?
It is certainly a classic combo. I like cheese on toast, and recently i have taken to letting it all cool right down and then eating it when it is cold. I think that sometimes the flavours emerge more when things are cold.
Hi ibelieveinserendipity,
Penut butter and tomato. I'll give that one a whirl. Peanut butter seems to keep coming up as an ingredient, like in the Elvis sandwich, and the one my daughter made. I mentioned to her that there was a bit of a chat going on about sandwiches, and that i had mentioned hers as being a bit of a silly/fun thing, and she said that i had it all wrong, and that it was actually a serious and well-considered sandwich, with the flavours and texures balancing and complementing, like when you make a curry, apparently the peanut butter being essential to the working of the curry paste thing.
Your chicken, avacado, mayo, and lettuce sandwich sounds really good to me. I have been eating avocado pears a lot recently. Such a great taste, unusual, and also the waxy texture. I have never come accross anything like an avacado pear. And with the chicken, mayo and lettuce. I will definately create that sandwich.
Also, I have to comment on your egg, tasty cheese, onion, mayo, with plenty of pepper and salt sandwich. Again, that sounds really good. The plenty of salt and pepper, I can see, would put the top hat on it.
I definately think you know how to make a good sandwich. Perhaps your serendipitous name is something to do with this because you are happy to try different combos and the chance of happy accident.
I am from the UK, so naturally I love crisp sandwiches....any flavour, I like everything.
I like everything in terms of crisps, but when it comes to food in general there are things I wouldn't eat. I ask you this, ibelieveinserendipity, would you eat Escago?

Re: what are your favorite sandwich concoctions?
Hiya Lottie!
They do these amazing baps in college.... they are huge and messy!
Sausage and fried egg in a floured bap- all hot and then if you just give it a squish, the egg just explodes. It's really messy, but GORGEOUS.
My sis likes lettuce sandwiches. And big fans of the chip buttie!!! (we're british, too )
Ooohhh... and a good steak sandwich is lovely, too. Medium rare, with horseradish and onions.
Maybe a few onion rings too.
Of course, gotta watch the carbs..... don't do that too often!

Re: what are your favorite sandwich concoctions?
I have made the elvis sandwich, all be it a smaller version, about 2,000 calories, rather than the standard 9,500, and i was true to how it was shown in the clip, though I had to use blackberry jelly rather than grape jelly, and I did not toast the bread like they did.
Anyway, I did it, and i have to admit it was very good.....and filling.
Here's an Elvis song I like...Suspicious Minds http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qX_xV2iBSww though his best, in my view was probably, In The Ghetto, but it is a bit too sober and sad for me to listen to.
But, does anyone, like me, believe he is alive. Well, he could be dead now, as he would be well over 70, I reckon, but at the time I think he just wanted out, and that manager he had, Colonel something, I reckon he fixed it. When you think about it, you know he didn't really die, you can feel it. I'm not an Elvis fan, as fans go, though I think he's ok, but i think I know him, and eating that sandwich has got me a little more into his mind set, and I just know that he 'got out'. Does anyone else have an opinion about this.
I'm going to make the chicken, avacado, mayo and lettuce sandwich as suggested by ibelieveinserendipity. The avacado has got me wondering.
Kyrajames. Hi. That sausage and fried egg sandwich sounds superb, and i know without asking you that you'll be having that with brown sause. I like canteen food. There is a cafe i go to now and then. A 'greasy spoon' in some ways, but a bit more like a canteen, a bit like the kind of canteen you would expect in a big bus depot, for the bus workers. Anyway, I go in there and have steak pudding, chips, veg and gravy, and a big mug of tea. And I listen to all the canteen sounds: chatter, tea spoons, plates, kitchen, etc. And when i say I listen to chatter, I don't mean that i listen to people's conversations. God, I hate that, when you go into a cafe, and someone comes to sit near you (when there is plenty of space, and you know they are just going to nosey and entertain themselves. How rude is that. When it has happened to me i just start talking about 'this idiot I knew who used to sit near people'. And even worse is when you are in the library, on the internet, and you are engrossed, and then after a good amount of time you realise that someone is sat next to you bored and just killing time and reading what you are writing. It's so rude. People!
Anyway, I've clearly gone off one one there.
But, THE SPROUT SANDWICH. Wow. I am wondering whether, in the spirit of broadening one's horizons, to make Femfree's favourite sprout sandwich, right down to the wholewheat bread: salmon, brussel sprouts and horseradish.
I'm really getting into this. I never realised that sandwiches are such versatile meals. Are there any more.
And topaz123, do you make the homemade pickled onions, and if so, how do you do that, just pour vinegar over 'em?
Anyway, here's a laugh http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qomBWvdu_lo
