..........................................
When I wrote on the Earth Hour thread that got out of hand I did mention that the Climate Camp protestors who planned a night camping outside in the City (equivalent Wall St) were being being demonised by the police days before their protest. Their plan...which they put before the police well in advance requested that they set up a peaceful camp for a night and that they will move on in the morning. It was planned as a sort of tiny Glastonbury Festival in the middle of the city with music, poetry, dancing, artwork and lots of banners...many wrote on walls expressing their opinions in CHALK...I would say that was deliberately considerate and community spirited but at the same time a way of expressing emotion and frustration...I would say that the VAST majority of these people where middle class university students on their Easter break wanting to let the leaders of the world at the G20 summit know that THEY care about the future much more than about short term gain at the expense of future generations and asking them to keep ways to counter global warming underpinning any decisions made at the summit.
One bystander died of a heart attack after being pushed to the ground by police....and many students where penned in or 'kettled' for hours which was a frightening experience for all. In the end the 'camp' was trashed with force and no warning.
What's this all about??????
