Depends on the state in which you live. My state has specific requirements for what they call a "change in circumstance"--if your income drops or rises more than 20%, etc., etc. I'm also in an income-shares state so the amount of child support is based off both parent's incomes & the amount of time the children spend with each parent. What is your custody arrangement? What does your court order say? I would search the information and get educated if I were you. There is a wealth of information to be found online, just google your state name and child support and you'll see. These Ns love to try to control you (or at least get some attention) by making these kinds of threats. The truth of the matter is often a very different story.

Re: if I work, can he tak some of my child support away?
Most states have a online CS calculator. There is also usually a minimum amount a non custodial parent is assessed based on their income regardless of how much the custodial parent makes. In my case I have physical custody and exnh and I share legal. DS spends two days a week with exnh. Even though I make more money than exnh he still has to pay me CS ($468 a month). So unless he is paying some outrageous amount and you are making a lot of money the CS will not change very much.
