Will we ever get a fully dubbed RPG?

Made in relation to the fact that, yet again, another release will not have a full dub track. According to Patrick Gann of RPGFan.com Mana Khemia 2 received the MK1 treatment where dub voices are absent. Not the JP voices though because those rarely (see Ar Tonelico II) seem to get cut.

So far, AT1 had voice cuts, AT2 had ridiculous cuts, Mana Khemia 1 had cuts, Soul Nomad had cuts, Rhapsody had cuts, Cross Edge had cuts, I think the last game I can remember that got a full track was Disgaea 3 and even then that's facing a lot of consistant cuts that don't seem to be changing.

I know the reasoning behind cuts (money and time scheduals and disc space) but it's discouraging that every time I hear that NISA is releasing a game I have to ask "what will they end up cutting out of the dub track this time?". I have nothing against duel track and even played AT1 with the JP track but I'd rather have a fair choice between two FULL tracks or having one FULL dub track over over one half-assed track and a full track.

For once, it'd be nice to instead be relieved that instead of "great! They kept a choice of audios" I could be relieved that the dub track get proper treatment.

if their DS releases (Rhapsody and the upcoming Atelier Annie) are any indication, NISA seems to be in favor of the original tracks, and why not? They know the fans want them retained (I might just be assuming, but these same fans likely make up their core audience), and keeping them is much easier than making a new track from scratch. The way I see it, given how Sony's foreign policies pretty much forces localized voices to be mandatory in their games, the dub tracks are probably more a liability to them, if anything. That whole fiasco with Phantom Brave Wii does leave me wondering, though.

I did not know that the dub voice in Mana Khemia 1 was being cut. This makes me reluctant to use dub. I always use dub voice in all RPG game. Why? because I can understand english and not just keep hearing japanese lang which I could not interpret. Dub always OK and works for me on game but certainly not anime.

I'm one of those ppl who hates dub. First time I tried jap voice on Atelier Iris, my jaw dropped and there was clearly a big difference on the voice actors professionalism.

Since then, I still keep using dub because I feel more comfortable but after finding out that the voice is going to be cut...meh...forget dub. I will go with jap voice and MK2 will be the first game that I used jap voice on the first play.

I have the cure!

"Fully voiced audio!" is written on the back. And it's an RPG. Hm...

A "fully dubbed RPG!" Huzzah!

Oh, wait, something else on the back...

"Dual language functionality!" Praise the landlord!

Only thing about it is the game is pretty mediocre, so I can't really recommend it anyway...

Riviera: The Promised Land (PSP version), published by ATLUS.

Played it already. Love Atlus over NISA in terms of voice work localization because while they do try to give duel tracks they don't cut down on the dub in exchange or if they can't fit both complete tracks they just keep the dub (see Personas 3 and 4).

Be prepared to be smited a lot, LadyRhia.

I have been on that train for a long while now, and it seems not only that NISA doesn't listen, but the vocal minority of japanophiles here like to rip apart those of us who get charged for the exact same game as the Jp do yet don't get the same voice treatment and come here to point it out.

I'm hoping with the dual disk release of Sakura Wars and the move to the PS3, we will see english voicing comparable to the jp voiced release, but Cross Edge didn't raise my hopes any with the same old voicing treatment.

For me it's left with deciding how much i really love the game, and is it enough to make the purchase knowing i'm not getting the same game the Jp gamers got.

For the first time i have to say i didn't buy a first day game release with Mana Khemia 2. It hurts, but knowing i'm not getting the same treatment as other gamers is just reprehensible.

/applaud
