Difficulty
Anybody order the over seas version of this game and can tell if its hard or not? I ordered the special edition, since I just plain can't stop myself from ordering stuff like that. My only gripe with NIS games lately is their lack of real challenge. Ar Tonelico was easy as can be, until you started hitting optional area's towards the end of the game, and those places were too few to keep me occupied for more than an hour.
I hope this game has a bit more difficulty to it, fight wise.

Re: Difficulty
A little bit more difficult than most games from the Atelier Iris series. You gauge the difficulty from the boss fights or if you fight during the night times. Check my review in this forum for a link to some gameplay videos. Watch the Boss battle ones as it gives you a general idea.

Re: Difficulty
And that is how they should be. If it is too hard like Ninja Gaiden maybe less people will get to experience the game fully.

Re: Difficulty
Actually, I like kinda tough, not extremely tough. I loved the hard parts in ar tonelico, its just that they were rare, and only came at the end of the game. The optional cave in the original atelier iris was nice to, as I have never beaten those golden piggies. And I can live with easy normal mobs and tough bosses. I absolutely love tough bosses. In ar tonelico I just had my singer build up a nuke for a bit and took most bosses out in one or 2 shots. Was just a bit of a let down.
I remember the final boss of atelier iris, that fella tore me up 4 times in a row till I finally beat him. He was easier in subsequent replays of the game, but that first time had me on the edge of my seat hoping I could get off another hit before he wiped me out. The reason he was so tough is because all bosses prior did not hold a candle, so I was unprepared for what he dished out.

Re: Difficulty
I thought Amalgam was easy. Abuse skill break attacks & it has nothing on you. Prism & Beggur were harder than Amalgam was for me. ...as was Pelaxius.

Re: Difficulty
Amalagam in Atelier Iris eternal mana is kind of easy save for that fact that it has several instant death moves.
That and only 1 accessory prevents instant death the Chronolex (Bio frame once you create it.)
Though I had more trouble with AI2's version of Amalagam since its way after then anybody and restores 999 HP every turn.
As for Mana Khemia's difficulty I'll see if its too easy or not once the games released on April 1st.

Re: Difficulty
I had a hard time with the original amalgam because it was unexpected. Plus, I didn't try to get everything out of the game that could be done my first play through. I did not use gamefaq's or some other place with walk through's and had no idea about the skills you could put on weapons. I do this for all NIS games, and usually have no problem in the game, playing normally. That was why amalgam was such a refreshing challenge, and fun for me.
I love how NIS games portray themselves, I just don't like the lack of challenge in most of them, but I will keep buying them anyway, until the day they decide to pull a final fantasy on me.
I would love it if every NIS game had a really hard optional area. Some of them do, but then again most of them don't.

Re: Difficulty
I though Atelier Iris one was hard at times while two and three were pretty easy. Ar tonelico was a flat out joke with its difficulty. I'm glad to hear that this latest game appears to be more challenging than the previous two.
I guess overall I like a game to be challenging, but not flat out hard but I guess that depends on what I am playing too. Megaten games ( like Noctourne, Persona, and Digital Devil saga) are typically hard but some how I never really minded those challenges.
