Name changes question...
It's been bugging me for a while, and I've made a couple speculations, but what's with the name changes? I've no complaints, personally, but it's just been a constant thorn in my side. Like Philomel Hartung => Jessica Philomele and Gunnar Damm => Flay Gunnar

Most likely it was for ease of pronouncing names for the English voice acting and people playing to pronounce them. Still it would have left Flay's name in its original state: Gunnar Damn

I was unaware of how much the characters names were changed between Japanese and English versions; what were the characters' original Japanese names?

'Theofratus' is all the likely actually Theophrastus, I think, since GUST has a knack for naming a couple people after philosophers or an occupation similar to that from time to time. (Kinda like Erasmus and Paracelsus from AI2)

It doesn't bother me because I play the game with Japanese voice acting, so I hear the character names as Phiro, Gun-chan, etc. I can kind of understand why they changed the names in English, but at the same time I can't. Mana-Khemia is obviously targeted at a very niche crowd, the type who love sprite based quirky JRPGs, so they're not going to care that the names are Philo and Gunnar.
