Favorite magic book and why?
Getting into the mind of magic! Hello all. I just joined this site and thought I'd drop in with some thoughts. I really don't know my way around here very well but am excited by the prospect this offers. Thanks Brian Cook for putting this together!
My favorites are Strong Magic by Darwin Ortiz and Mysteries of my life by Rene Lavand.
At present I am reading The Five Points In Magic by Juan Tamariz.
Learning magic tricks from books is difficult for me, but learning and understanding the inner nuances of magic, why the sleights work and the art of misdirection, that is what I think books are great for.

Re: Favorite magic book and why?
The Book of Secrets by John Carney
The Theater of the Mind by Barrie Richardson
These are the two I reread most often. I also enjoy the Tarbel series for ideas and The Magic of Alan Wakeling and The Magic of Slydini.
I enjoy rereading all of my books.

Re: Favorite magic book and why?
The various Slydini books were foundational to my theory of magic. I devoured Mike Close's Workers series. The Tarbell Course and Bruce Elliott's Classic Secrets of Magic for 'hidden gems'. For a slice of magic history and magic -- The Jinx.

Re: Favorite magic book and why?
My favorite magic book is "The Royal Touch" written by Jim Cellini, arguably the best street magician in the world.
This book contains all you need to know to make it in the professional world of busking. It provides one an abundant source of tricks/effects that are the most effective on the street. It offers guidelines and suggestions as to costume, props, and table construction. And it is written in the style of a street magician who is speaking from years and years of experience. Great photographs, good guidelines, good strategies.
