Very interesting. This is part of what appeals to me about magic, why the tricks fool (even smart!) people. I didn't know to what extent cognitive science had looked into magic.

I also liked this article last year in the NY Times Science Section: Sleights of Mind, from the Magic of Consciousness symposium at Las Vegas.
