Magic Castle Audition

I've decided I want to try performing at the Magic Castle, and I need to select 18 minutes of my best material to submit on my audition DVD.

What, in your opinion, are my top "signature" effects that I should include?

Let me turn the question around....

Which effects do you feel are your top signature effects?

I already know which are my favorites, but I'm curious to what other people think.

Well I would have different answers depending if your wanting to perform in the palace or the parlor or even the close up room.

Good point...

Well, I think I would do best in the Parlor. It's a more intimate space, well-suited to my particular style.

Philemon,

The reason for my question is that I believe that you are the best judge in what should be submitted. I would be interested in reading your list.

But since you asked...

No math tricks, Immortal card tricks, DaVinci tricks, Kurotsuke, and appearing shovels....

...no wait, appearing shovels is mine.

It is interesting that you list what I SHOULDN'T do, instead of what I SHOULD.

Anyways, since no one apparently has an opinion they are willing to voice, this is what I came up with:

Begin with my version of the "Bloody Handprint" effect (as seen at the recent Kramien's).

Segue into "The Nature of Fate" (die box) routine.

Transition with "Pentacles" (the paper cutting effect that ends with a pentagram) using the same 'contract' that I used in the first effect.

Do the "Da Vinci's Cryptex" effect that seems to get a very strong reaction everytime I do it. (sorry Fred)

End with a simple restoration of the bloody, cut contract back to its original form.

---

At this point, anyone feel free to chime in if you think I'm wrong in choosing these effects and give me the reason(s) why you feel so.

I like the effect in of itself. You are absolutely right - tt plays strong. It is the frame that I am concerned about. I just feel that Da Vinci Code has lost it prominence in pop fiction.

I was going to recommend that Nature of Fate but I couldn't remember its name. "That Die Box trick" would have been less than clear.

I have considered that...

Luckily, the methodology itself (basically Pegasus Page) can easily be adapted to any book and/or theme.

So, which book should I now use?

The Satanic Bible?
The Necronomicon?
Something else?

Which object should I use to find the missing page?

A Hellraiser Cube? (Lament Configuration)

Of course, the other question to ask is if "The Da Vinci Code" is still within the public consciousness. Certainly, it's no longer as freshly controversial as it used to be, but did it make enough of an impact that it is indelibly woven into the general knowledge base (like Star Wars, or even Star Trek)?

I'm reluctant to give up the original framing of this effect simply because it's no longer trendy, since the revelation in the locked Cryptex using a word that the spectator has chosen at random (when that aspect works), I feel is particularly strong.

But I'm open to discussion on this...
