The boards
Since the admin section's gone (!!) I guess the place to discuss this is here.
I'm confused as to what's going on. There were discussions in progress regarding forum elections for a new panel of mods, renewable every 2 years. These have all been wiped out (?)
Forum members should know that there were disagreements regarding how the board should be run, what can be done to attract and retain new posters etc. It seems a new broom is needed. Frankly I personally am no longer interested in moderating. I enjoyed the experience but it's somewhat time consuming, and I think new people with new ideas ought to be invited to have a go. Glitter has stated she's leaving for personal resaons, and has handed ownership of the boards back to simpson who was the forum's original creator.
simpson, given that you own the board again it seems logical (if you want to of course) that you take over and oversee whatever changes people want until there is a new panel of mods in place? You should disarm my moderating powers as I don't wish to use them any longer. I will continue to contribute to this board as I think it's great fun and has a lot of potential.
Good luck to the new mods, whoever they shall be, but I feel it should be made clear in here just exactly what is going to happen?

Re: The boards
I am in agreement with the above, although the look of the board this morning came as a bit of a shock. I wasn't aware it was going to happen this fast.
Anyhoo, we need to get down to the real business of deciding how many? what direction we'd like the board to take and to start nominations.
Any ideas?

Re: The boards
Have we decided whether the nominations will come from others or will you have to put yourself forward?

Re: The boards
It was I who changed the look of the forum, to ring the changes a bit. I think the admin section is surplus to requirements, as I'll now explain.
As I've said to Dave in a PM, we are but a tiny wee corner of the internet, and until they were de-modded, we used to have more mods than active members! So for the time being, I am going to administer and moderate the board on my own until such time as we get more members and the task becomes difficult to carry out solo.
If/when that occurs, I'd be more than happy to have a discussion about elections and such like, but at this moment in time, we don't really have enough active posters to make them feasible.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your sterling efforts over the past few years. I promise not to be an old bastard.
In the meantime, I'm going to be doing some spring-cleaning.

Re: The boards
Although I can see your point Simpson, that does rather take us back to the dictatorship, benevolent or otherwise which we wished to avoid.

Re: The boards
we could always advertise. I'm not sure where yet. If we have a couple of sections with up to date serious content, we might make people interested. Sort of try and get plugged in the nursing press.

Re: The boards
quote: simpson wrote:
I hear what you're saying, Kitty, but with this board the way it is at the moment, with 7 moderators and 3 administrators, who would they actually be moderating?
I'm going to bring up the hoary old chestnut of increasing membership here. What can be done, do you think?
Clive,
I am totally with Kitty on this. There has just been a huge fight between many of the moderators (who are amongst the most active posters) about having a single dictator running the board themselves.
Moving from one dictatorship to another is not progress and I think you should seriously reconsider this. We have a situation where all the moderators were unilaterally removed by the previous owner and now we have the new owner who just wants to impose their own views on the board. That is the problem with dictatorships, in that moderators can be removed, whole sections deleted, the board altered and all on a personal whim.
If you want real progress on this, then I think you should embrace the opportunity of moving to democratically elected moderators and moderators which is what the moderators had agreed to prior to our sudden disbandment.
