Elections for moderators

Dear all,

As part of the changing ownership and moderation process for the board, I am now opening up the board to a democratic moderation and ownership model.

As a first step, it would be helpful if people would indicate whether they would be willing to put themselves up for moderator. We will have a call for nominations for the next 2 weeks and then have an election the week after.

For the next 3 weeks, I will remain as owner and Kitty & I will moderate until after the elections.

So please post below if you would be interested in helping to shape and manage the board.

Re: Elections for moderators

There haven't been any volunteers for moderators over the last week, so I will close nominations on Monday. If there is no interest now then Kitty and I will carry on for the interim and we will redo the exercise every 6 months as the board activity naturally grows.

Hmm - looks like Uber is a mod all of a sudden. Who voted for him, Dave? Or did you make him one "on a whim".

What a hypocrite

Hi Beak, long time no see emoticon

You are absolutely correct that no-one voted or nominated any mods for election, so I decided to appoint Uber (who was previously a very good moderator) until we revisit the election process later in the year.

The explicit aim is to have the moderators and administrators democratically elected but we probably need more activity and interest first.

Given you decided to appoint uber as a moderator but he had no idea he had been appointed, did you appoint him without asking him first?

Re: Elections for moderators

This has all been typical behaviour of someone who talks the talk but doesnt walk the walk. To impose democracy without asking is dictatorship. Members answered by not buying into it.

It is time to clear the air and then perhaps everyone can get on with running the board in whatever manner they see fit.

To be honest I came back because I couldnt help laughing at this person who had nagged for ages over certain perceived behaviours and made Simpsons life quite unpleasant when he took over from me with various rants and raves and who then behaved exactly the same as soon as he was in control.

A lot of things were said then which were not true and assumptions made.

Happybunny and Mad Jock are quite right in their postings that these days there is little to discuss and things are boring. This is a result of a policy by the current owner of the board and his acolyte not to seed new threads and post much in order to encourage new posters, a counter intuitive policy I never agreed with and was part of our disagreement over the running of the board. It doesnt seem to have worked in any case despite his in depth statistical analysis.

To make a board democratic and accuse administrators of being dictators is simply ridiculous in my opinion and unwarranted when there are only a few posters in any case. The current owner positioned himself to take over as soon as possible and wanted to from day one. He was always jealous that I had been made owner by Simpson in the first place and always gave me grief in private over the running of the board.

It is interesting that so far his experiment has failed and that his grandiose and rather sad ideas are simply running the board into the ground. You cannot make ten people into a lib dem rally or a social enterprise but I guess for the politically naive and inexperienced any trial will do.

I think banning Simpson when he had been baited to death, (quite wrongly in my opinion over an issue which no one else here can really understand from his point of view) was also wrong. And before Kitty jumps in with one of her "but you were mean to SImpson in private" comments he knows I was and as he has said that bad blood is past now. Some people can move on and take criticism rather than spouting inanities about how all criticism is good.

Happybunny and Jock would have been good mods and a clean slate was certainly needed. Happybunny was always very astute in her reading of the problems here and should have been listened to.

I am sure that I will be subjected to one of his usual rather pompous posts on any subject relating to something he knows next to nothing about. If not he will edit bits out he doesnt like. As for being comfortable with criticism, dont make me laugh, another reflection of someone who lives in cloud cuckoo land and who makes sure that anyone he considers to be opposed to his view has a campaign conducted against them in order to control them.

This is quite definitely my last post now and whilst I am sad about the board and for any part I played in its demise I think it time to start a new one. All internet communities have a time span before things go up in smoke and I think Rod said this ages ago when we set up this board.

Re: Elections for moderators

Glitter,

I think this is your 4th "I am leaving now and this is definitely my last post" so I am just going to wait for the inevitable return and postings emoticon

The above post was posted multiple times, and I have tidied this up so it is here (which seems the most appropriate thread).

It is extremely hypocritical to pretend that you oppose Simpson's banning when you were the only moderator who consistently argued for him to be permanently banned! As for democracy being ridiculous, this is always what Dictators cling to. You may not like the term but you decided who was moderators and who wasn't, who was banned and who wasn't and you were answerable to no-one - that is dictatorship. I was never jealous that Simpson gave the board to you and have argued consistently that the board should not be under any one individuals control. I have had one attempt and setting the board up democratically but there was insufficient interest so I will try again later in the year.

As for the failings of the board, there has only been one regular poster in the last year who has joined the board and this is what the moderators were debating when you unilaterally removed the moderators, deleted the moderators area and handed the board to Simpson. The board was dying and in the last month, the board has actually been far healthier with a more balanced spread of posts and without the domination of a handful of regular posters.

It may take the board months or years to recover but the old approach was clearly not working and that is the right time to try new and experimental approaches.
