Hi Gavin,
are you familiar with Professor Stephen Wright's work in this area? He has published many articles in this area and appears often in Nursing Times.

Spirituality:

1, The Quality or condition of being spiritual

2, The property or revenue belonging to a church or church official

I am assuming that you mean the first of the definitions, unless you work for a religious order in your care giving.

To do this one must a, believe that there is a God. b, believe in the same God as your patient/client. Otherwise how can you objectively use spirituality in your care giving to that particular patient. Personally I have always preffered to just give of myself, not some strange belief.

spirituality means different things to different people..for some it is a specific religion for others it is whatever they believe in...as to wheterh you agree or not surely in order to provide holistic care uber you must show respect for their beliefs whatever your own....mind you does that include terrorism cos thats another fine mess we could get into emoticon

Respecting their beliefs is one thing, being expected to believe in them yourself is quite another.

Strangely enough the attempted suicide bombers at Glasgow airport were treated for their burns at the local hospital by staff who once were their colleagues. I often wonder if it were me in that situation, could I give the kind of care I should or would I feel they had threatened the safety of me and mine so to hell with them??? Thankfully for them and me the question remains unasked.

That's where professionalism kicks in. You don't have to like all your patients, you do however have to be polite and provide adequate care. That's where the contract ends.

Yes. I'm sure at some point you have had to care for someone who had attacked you or one of your colleagues.
