I agree with snowkitty, this would not have been acceptable if it had been as in her senario! More likely they would be getting done for child-abuse/abandonment. The law in this country does say we must make adequate care arrangements for minors under 18. That has always been difficult to actually define. What is adequate to some is not to others. And until something happens maybe the arrangements appear to be adequate.
As for having the advert on before Shrek although I'm sure most children have already been made aware of what happened, what about those children whose parents do leave them alone while they go to the pub next door? are they going to be more frightened now? or should their fear be a lesson to the parents?

I agree Chestnut the real problem is that no amount of teaching her what to do would have prevented what happened to Madeleine.
She was taken from her bed whilst sleeing is very hard to explain to a child who may then have real problems sleeping themselves. The odeon has now withdrawn the advert.

I agree. I feel for this couple's anguish; they made a mistake they must be crucifying themselves for, but I agree that if they had been doleites, factory workers, black, lesbian mums, or whatever other media targets, yes they would be being blasted, social workers galore flown out to Portugal and the other kids taken into care. See other thread about doctors and pedestals - this is a classic case of classism. The celebrity involvement must be galling to those whose kids are missing with barely an inch of media space, and meetings with the pope and such like is just allowing yourself to be manipuated, though it's probably harsh to criticize a couple who are currently so vulnerable, I admit. One does hope however, that this sorry affair will remind parents that forking out for a trusted babysitter is cash well spent.

News today suggests that traces of blood were found in the room she was taken from.
Realistically, is this poor girl still alive? If she is found alive, three months is an enormous portion of this girl's entire life - how easy will it be to re-establish the parental bond? Horrible mess whatever the outcome, though I sincerely hope she's safe and well.
On another note, I got a postcard from the north of England the other day, with the postamrk saying "Find Madeleine" How useful is this?
