Not sure I entirely disagree Kylie but frankly I find it funny and I am not really that bothered.

I do laugh at some strange things thought which others probably dont think are funny. One of my fave films for example is Wilbur wants to kill himself all about abortive suicide attempts!

Yes, but wilbur is only a film Glitter.

I respect people's property and I find it amazing that people here can find it amusing that ANYBODY has their home smashed up, whatever the circumstances. I agree simpson, with your comments about rich people having power and influence, however I prefer to try and challenge that through the political process and not by laughing at the misfortunes of individuals. It is particualarly surprising to see class based insults being bandied about by the very person who at the mere mention of the word "chav" usually breaks out into a chorus of "Let My People Go" emoticon

Because poor people have no power or influence. Because there is a long and nasty tradition in this country of treating poor people with contempt. Because 'chav' is used as shorthand for poor people, and as a means of middle class people demonstrating said contempt.

None of which applies to thick, spoilt rich girls in Devon.

Oh get over yourself. I'm as working class as they come and I find the "chav" thing hysterical, as do many others here who've said so, even when they come from the most deprived council estates like Dayshade does. You'd do better to help the cause of the poor if you stopped supporting the likes of Bush and buying the Torygraph!

You are equating being not too bright and having money with deserving to have your home smashed up. That is hooliganism. It is exactly what the Red Guards did in China during the Cultural Revolution, but doubtless, you suddenly don't think that's funny?

Wow - amazing! You mean - people are different, with different opinions, thoughts and feelings? Thanks for helping me towards a truly earth-shattering insight.

Yes, people have feelings, even if they're rich.

Actually, let me make sure I've got this right. It's OK to laugh at/mock/hold up to ridicule and scorn already marginalised and disenfranchised people but it's NOT ok to laugh at some overprivileged twit reaping the rewards of her own stupidity?

Just want to make sure I've got this correct.

You haven't.

It's OK to laugh at people in an approproate jokey context, whether they be chavs, toffs, middle Englanders, etc. Furthermore I consider that the ability to laugh at yourself is a gift.

However, I will never find it funny that anybody of whatever class, social status, income group or level of intelligence gets their home smashed up. You think such mindless vandalism is acceptable and amusing if the victims are rich. We'll agree to differ.
