Zimbabwe Elections
At lunchtime the MDC
declared victory in the elections. The silence from Mugabe is deafening. No results have been released yet. Do you think he'll broker a deal? or is he busy still filling in ballot papers in his lounge?
Do you think he'll go quietly?

As far as I'm aware most of the army is in the pockets of Zanu-PF and with Mugabe as Commander in Chief or whatever, I can forsee a situation in which military rule is initiated (perhaps after a civil war is whipped up, Kenya-stylee), thus reinstalling Mugabe as the de facto dictator of Zim. Whatever, these are 'interesting' times for that benighted country. If I were Zimbabwean, I'd be trying my damnedest to get the **** out of there.
I couldn't agree more, but going by some of the posts on this site regarding asylum seekers, I take it they won't be welcome here?

Re: Zimbabwe Elections
As a allegedly free and prosperous nation, we have a duty to offer those in need of genuine asylum our protection and assistance. I know this doesn't go down well at the Daily Mail who seem to think that all immigrants are scroungers. I think we can all look around our teams and see several Zimbabweans that do a good job and contribute a lot to our society.

I can't quite see where you get that idea from Simpson. What about Mehdi Kamezi the Gay Iranian as but one example?
