Disabilitity Discrimination Act

Currently the Disability Discrimination Act is a Civil Law, this means that many companies and employers simply ignore the regulations which are supposed to aid disabled people. If the Law was altered to being a criminal action, as is race discrimination, then disabled people might get the protection which this act is supposed to imbue.

What would be gained or lost by making it a criminal act ?

Making it a criminal act would give the courts far more power to implement the Law, at the moment it is possible to flout the law without any legal repercussions.
