Congratulations on getting your interview.

You might want to look at recent stuff eg Clinical Governance for prison health & the stuff at Prison Health Research Network

Assuming your NS piece was complimentary about prison nursing (didn't break rles of confidentiality etc) I would definately mention it as demonstrating your enthusiasm for the speciality.

In your interview you should highlight, and stress the fact that you are a nurse, and that given the constraints of the essential security aspects, you will still endevour to treat your patients to the high level of care expected by the NHS.

For Gods don't tell them that you want to bang the patients up, but you may as well ask about personal safety aspects, and what level of restraint techniques would you be asked to attain.

Highlight any particular skills that you will bring to the team.

It's always a good idea to read the job description, so you can see which areas you need to cover.

The only thing that I can see going against you is that you will be newly qualified, most prisons want experienced nurses, because at times you can be the only nurse on duty, but this is dependent on how large the individual prisons health care department is.

Good Luck, it is a rewarding job, because all of your nursing skills can be used at some time.

Re: prison nurse interview OMG

I didnt get it, asked for feedback.
There were 15 of us being interviewed and all of them RGN and working in A/E and MEU etc, but i fell good that i managed to get the interview as it has now given me a insight of what they may ask at the next interview.
I have sent my Cv to a couple of prisons and this may get a response hopefully as the vacancies at the moment on the prison website are at the other side of the country.
i wont stop trying and i no they have chosen the best person for the job, shame it wasnt me.
