well...hows the courses going..ive just about had my fill of such things especially as its a conveyor belt and once on is very hard to get off and just do the job....theres always something else ie government initiative to get in the way....anyone else had to do hand washing and assessment of aseptic technique again post qualification and several years on the job later....

Re: courses

think its a get out clause for any future incidents where member of staff will become a scapegoat...we taught them they got a certificate...therefore its personal fault rather than organisational...oh and latest is NO WEDDING RINGS so i have to leave mine at home...so why did the nose decs and ear decs get away for so long...afer all in a former life we were not allowed to wear them to work....some of us feel that wedding rings are a symbol of our beliefs and that we are being villified for such beliefs...!!!

meanwhile those who havent done assessment of technique continue to do dressings unobserved so not sure at what stage you become unworthy without an assessment...

I'd have an issue with that, mainly because I can;t get mine off even if I wanted to and I'd refuse to have it cut off. I'd want to see the evidence that wearing a plain gold band makes a significant difference to hand flora.

It doesn't, and in any case there are these things called gloves which cover up the whole of your hand.

I don't think there's anything wrong in checking up on people's skills, no matter how long they've been qualified. After years in the job, you're more likely to take short cuts and with the UK having the worst HAI rates in Europe, and with HAIs killing more people per year than road traffic accidents, then making sure people are washing their hands properly is vital.

Of course there's a difference, updates simply inform you of any new direction, and evidence that there is, re assessment seems to say that you have become unable to do the job, and can't be trusted.
