posticon Starting Uni on Monday - Getting Worried!

So I'm starting my Adult Nursing Diploma on Monday and am starting to get a bit of a panic on.

I've done all the background reading asked for, and feel fairly happy with the scienc-y type stuff.

BUT, the maths is scaring me half to death! I wouldn't say I am that bad at it, but I was never very good at school and I think my low confidence from back then is affecting me now.

I bought a Nursing Calculations book which has helped no end as it has plenty of practical examples to practice from, and I've been using a brilliant website which has exercises, explanatory videos on it etc etc which is also great!

I just feel out of my depth and don't really know what to expect.... I didn't have to take a maths test before being accepted onto my course (perhaps for the best or not..) but I've heard there is one in the first year!

Can anyone share their experiences with me or put my mind at ease at all?! What can I expect in the first year and will I be able to get help with my maths if I feel I need it?

maths...i struggled with at school but i did calculations as a subject at college and found it totally different. It is much easier to apply certain rules re infusion pumps etc within the workplace than you might realise...mistakes tend to happen under pressure and it is important to focus on the task in hand and that is why there should be 2 of you to double check infusion rates etc...if you feel daunted it does add to the pressure..i can only wish you well and at least you have accesed the resources you state so good luck...

Thanks for your advice there Dehlilah. I'm sure that once I get in there and start really doing it, it will all be fine. I think I'm just out of practice. :-)

And the sex drink and drugs are also good emoticon

Don't worry too much about the maths, most nurses are crap at maths and they let you retake the drug calculations test a few times.

If you are really crap at maths, and very worried about your level of numeracy, there should be support available at just about every uni. Where are you going, if you don't mind me asking?
