Re: Wound cleansing using tap water I gathered she wasnt a student but thought she was talking about a thesis from her student days! Anyway 2 years HUH! try 20 Lulu!
Good for her! At least she won't kill anyone like me.
Lol - I spend my life hoping I won't but I'm not convinced yet! lol goalie - I will dig it out in the bedlam that is my home and post it 4 u!.
re - steripods - Our IC nurse outlawed carrying them around and warming them to body temp this way (all the podiatrists did it) due to the teeny chance of cross contamination once opened (all those luverly skin cells in your pocket that you don't really notice ).
Mind you the same IC nurse advocates washing the floors, cabinets and call bells AND THEN stripping and washing beds in infection rooms!!!!!! absolutely NO chance of cross contamination there then!!!
but who am I to wonder why - I'm a baby nurse after all (leave your brain and mouth at the door and prepare to be patronised!!!!) lol thats one thing I've learned in 2 years!!
BTW - I forgot to say helloo when I absconded here from Lulu's - that was rude of me - so Hellooo all! pleased to meet you!

excellent point. i suppose one way round this would be to wipe the pod with alcowipe before opening, which is what you have to do with those ridiculous sachets of saline i used to have to use.
Re: Wound cleansing using tap water but by using the alcohol wipe are you introducing a further risk (albeit minute!) that some of the alcohol could potentially be introduced (via aerosolization) into the wound bed along with the saline and thereby cause disruption to healing! most people dont wait the correct amount of time for evaporation when using alcowipes (its on its dry! so open it now!) also if you look at the research on injections and alcowipes - the length of contact time and drying time makes it quite prohibitive to use (cos by the time its contacted long enough and been left long enough to dry you could have done the injection/irrigation 4 times.
Then theres all the research about the PPI ratio of liquid prepareations (how hard do you squeeze the steripod to irrigate and how much disruption is is causing to the wound bed - how much pressure is the stericlens being sprayed on at etc etc etc!
you could evaluate it to death!!!! by which time the patients leg may have fallen off!!! Its a fascinating subject when you delve right into it though!
still trawling through my old floppies trying to find my thesis!.........it is here somewhere!!! lol
