Re: Mum's cooking

I've just been reminded of Saturday dinners with my Mum. Grilled pork chops with mashed potatoes(done with full cream milk and butter) peas. With the fat from the grill pan poured over the potatoes. Ah! heaven on a plate. No surprise that my dad had a CABG.

Oh that's reminded me of liver and onions and mashed potato on a Saturday as well as Singaporean curry and my gran's north country meat and potato pie - which incidentally is replicated in my oven right now... the smell is wafting out of the oven as I type - but the pasta described on the first page sounds delicious!

Fonenurse sounds good and has reminded me of both of my grans. My southern granny cooked well and always made high tea with ham and trifle and various cakes and salads. My northern Grandma had the lightest pastry I have ever tasted and was an old fashioned cook baking and making proper stews and rice pudding. I have never liked rice pudding apart from grandmas.

I miss my granny more than anyone on earth she always knew what to say and amazed me even with Alzheimer's having the ability to pull herself back if something needed her and was important.

I learnt my cooking skills from my grandmother which has made me a very good cook, the only thing I really miss is steak and kidney pudding, but that just as much due to the fact that I am now vegetarian as to the fact that I still can't make a good suet dumpling emoticon
