Given the weakness of Blair when he was the President ha ha of europe in not dumping the constitution completely, and the pitifull way that brown turned up late to sign a foul constitution as if he didn't want to, our most recent leaders are weak minded and overwhelmed by foreigners like the unelected true president of europe barosso, and the likes of merkel.
Today I am very proud of being British because although Scotland lost they maintained the place in the final standings, england leap frogged their way into second place with a win in croke park, and wales god bless them finished a good day against our european enemies by taking the grand slam, especially as the arrogant foreigners from across the water prior to the match said they were going to stuff Wales.
Today I am ashamed of our politicians, but proud of our nation. Can you genuinely say the same.
I dont know why I should say the same?
I am divided on the subject of pride in our nation. I am not proud of Brits abroad, I think our relationship with America stinks, I dont think we treat the poor and disadvantaged as we should, I think we often allow yobbish and boorish behaviour to supersede intelligent and thoughtful behaviour and we praise the latter at expense of the former. I also think as a nation we can be narrow minded bigots.
On the other hand I would never feel happy living anywhere else. I would miss the wonderful countryside and the variety of beauty. I would miss the language and the opportunity to hear Shakespeare and plays in my native tongue. I would miss the peculiarities of English thinking and the eccentricities of our people. I would also miss the weather!
I am proud of some but not all of our heritage and politics and very proud of our literature and culture.

Re: Citizenship and oaths to the queen on leaving school
I completely forgot, only Brits behave badly abroad, europhiles of course are paragons of virtue, and totally honest, they must me the propaganda department at the eu ministry of truth says so.
I repeat, anyone who is in favour of handing over the governement of our nation to a foreign power, which is what the eu is, is a traitor, if you like the eu so much why don't you move to brussells or stracsbourg.

Re: Citizenship and oaths to the queen on leaving school
That rant you can take to the EU section. I never mentioned the EU. This whole thing started because you targeted one country in a spiteful and frankly loathsome way.
You asked me why I was proud of my nation and I replied. You then set about saying I hadn't put any similarities between our behaviours and others such as that of people abroad. You didn't ask me that's why and I was talking about us not other countries.
Your hatred of the EU borders on the insane Uber.
I am proud to live on this continent and proud of European Culture just as I am of the British. I would rather be a part of that culture than the American one. I do not believe for an instant that we will lose our sovereignty and actually if it came to losing the Queen I would be all for it in any case.
I do not think there is a point to any further discussion with you on the EU because you are clearly irrational on the subject and spout loathsome and tedious bulll**** about it.

Mine isn't, never has been and never will be. Have you actually been to States and experienced their culture first hand? (and I don't mean Disneyland, shopping trips to New York or all inclusive packages to Florida).

At least the Americans can almost speak in the same language.
How arrogant to assume it's others who should speak your language, ignoring the fact that many in mainland Europe do learn English, often to a level better than the average American (an increasing number of whom in any case have Spanish amongst other languages as their mother tongue).
Your own language skills extend to what pray tell??

Re: Citizenship and oaths to the queen on leaving school
I don't expect our foreign enemies in europe to speak my language, I prefer them to keep their own, and their own cultures, and their own currencies, and their own democratically elected national governments with primacy of law in their own countries, you see I genuinly understand the diversive nature of the continent of europe, and I, not the ersatz foreign power in brussells actually am more considerate to the citizens of the previously independent nations, than those creeps, and europhiles everywhere, because I believe in true democracy.

You reveal your true colours. "Enemies" FFS.
If that is the introspective dead-end UKIP would lead us down thank **** they don't stand a chance of ever being elected.
Glitter's right - you should take it to the Euro-rant ection.

Re: Citizenship and oaths to the queen on leaving school
I think a country that doesnt accept different cultures is bankrupt, narrow minded and will eventually wither and die look at the more fundamentalist religions.
There is little to choose between you and fundamentalist Muslims Uber.
Without other races and cultures we would not have so many things and our European neighbours are far more open minded and civilising in their influence than monolithic America with its internal looking politics and imperialistic foreign policies.
However I love America as a country to visit and have no objection at all to individual Americans themselves who are often subject to living in a political reality which does not reflect their views or wishes.
